The initial setup! I love it! Once you've installed and rebooted, the initial setup screens are very cool. Good music playing and Fast User Switching-style rotation as a transition between each dialog.
You guys are going to love it! Anyone already seen it?

Good music playing:
Window transition: 8 megs of video. Damn!
But yeah, I also noticed that Panther installs REAL quickly. All three discs, too.

I haven't used it and wouldn't. I think a clean upgrade is always the best policy.

I feel the ideal solution is to do a clean install from a formatted Hard Drive.
That being said, I upgraded from 10.1 to 10.2 without a hitch.
I'm upping my RAM and purchasing a new HD for Panther.

I always format the drive... I keep data storage on my main drive to a minimum so I can be spontaneous and reformat on a whim.
I even rm -rf'd the other day just for the fun of it.

Why even respond if you're not going to answer or address the question? And to boot, your response shows you haven't taken the avenue he's inquiring about...

Umm...aren't people NOT supposed to upgrade from any prerelease to another prerelease version (or even GM) under any circumstances?

I used Carbon Copy Cloner on 10.2.6 to an Ext FW drive and upgraded to Panther beta about 8 times now without any major problems. A lot of stuff still worked. However, I know there are things that are just not working at all, and should not be in there. Such as USB Overdrive, Transparent Dock, some APE crap and myriad others.
I would perform a clean install if you have any 3rd party haxies, or resources to preserve your current working OS, otherwise, upgrading from Jag should be good to go. IMHO
I will be formatting my drive after backing up ~ 30 GBs and then installing Panther.
Oh, and I really like the installer, it's a welcome change from what we had in Jag. My son would say it's uber or whatever his current vernacular is.

I think he meant that his Mac has 8MB VRAM and can't show the transition.

Yeah, but what about re-installing all those applications again? Isn't that the biggest pain?
It's a 4-hour operation for me.

My current system has followed me on four iBooks and now a PowerBook (using CCC).
When Panther arrives I will re install everything.

But is is in my library. Listening to it now.
I'm thinking of pre-ordering 10.3 instead of waiting a month or so, as I did with 10.2. Just in case.

I even rm -rf'd the other day just for the fun of it.
I lacked the courage to do that, although the temptation grows stronger every day. Maybe my spare clamshell will have to experience it someday

So my reply actually made you mad? My reply that wasn't even to a question *you* had asked? Please tell me what exactly I'm harming by telling him that I don't think upgrades are a good idea; I think it was relevant even it it didn't answer his direct question, Mr Literal Uptight Guy. You, sir, are a fool.

It doesn't have to be such a pain.
Here's a time-saving procedure for a 100% clean and fresh Panther install.
Use CCC and read this thread for more info on how to do the procedure exactly.
Good luck.

Hi, is there someone here who'd be kind enough to post for a very limited time the initial intro video found in Panther 7B59?
I've succeeded in getting a .mp4 compressed version through these forums (intro_compuesta_final.mov weighting about 8,5 Mo), but I'd really love to put my hands on the unedited one--since I do prefer this former video.
Thanks in advance!
