As I'm sure has been stated already, get another Mac with Firewire and boot it in target mode after being in the freezer. I managed to get everything off my PB when my drive died this way

yeah unfortunately, i gave my pismo to my sister so that won't be possible. but at any rate, the drive's ordered and should be here sometime next week.

now i've got to think of a way to quickly get the data off the drive if it's able to run and mount the next time i power it up. some possible scenarios i could take on the first attempt:

1. copy just the home folder.
2. copy the home folder and apps.
3. copy the entire volume.

carbon copy cloner should do the trick.
