It's so damn useful.

Against the really hard guys just hit them with all you got, then cloak, wait for the damage multiplier to count up and blaze back into action.

At lvl 11 now, just finally starting to get some sweet guns and decent loot. Got a +18% Team Critical Class Mod and a Fire Sniper that absolutely de-stroys. Spent my money on another class mod and when I return to the gun shop I find a pretty rare (purple) Assault Rifle with a big clip and 42x2 dmg.....couldn't afford it...

I still can't believe it was waiting at home for me already yesterday. It's good so far, but it hasn't hooked me yet. I need to relearn using the special abilities, but more important, the game was giving me a slight headache from what I think is a smaller FOV.

...and this you can feel free to take me to task for: About an hour in I missed competitive multiplayer (I was going to log but fatty signed on). There's something more rewarding about killing real people. Interestingly, BF3 has definitely made me far deadlier at this than before – I'm running from cover to cover, peeking out to squeeze off shots, and am far more deadly with the pistols.

I think in the early going here, I'm going to stick to playing when sek is on, at least til my appetite comes back.

Agreed, also very helpful for running away if you're on the verge of death. Haha.

Thursday left me kinda meh, but after Friday night I was in. Observations:

• What the hell are they doing with the echo recorders? Who the hell can remember which ones they've picked up? I don't understand why they removed them disappearing after you find them.

• The sound/dialog in this game could use some work. I have NPCs talking over each other, ECHOs preempting each other and I can barely hear it all, even turning down music and SFX

• Car controls still suck. And now it seems the catch-a-ride functionality has been reduced (only one player in a menu at a time?)

• They added a bank for exchanging weapons between characters. Yes.

• Did some gambling last night. Won 4 or 8 Eridium.

• Had a mission where I deliver pizza. After I kill everyone, I went back because I wanted a slice. And I could take it.

• The inability to reset badass tokens is weird. But I did read that the bonuses go across all characters.

Achieving enough Badass Ranks will award the player with a Badass Token, which can be spent on one of five randomly selected stat upgrades out of a list of possible choices. Less-picked options appear more often, so you cannot have too unbalanced a distribution of Tokens. These upgrades affect all of the player's characters--past, present and future.
FInally, perusing the GAF Borderlands OT has some cool posts:

Got this in the post today. Loving it so far. Dunno if its me, but the menus don't seem to be as intuitive as BL1. No insults please Dakar.

Using Axton, only level 4. Installing to hard drive atm since this thing spins more than BF3.

Very tempted to start another character at the same time, just in case (assuming that you can have 2 characters on the go at the same time).

If i have one large criticism of Borderlands, and this applies to GTA and probably other games as well, it's that the missions are so boring or repetitive.

I need you to complete this task - x number of times.
I need to go to point a, then point, b then point c.
I need you to complete objective one but first you must go to location two and get item three for me.

...and don't even get me started on timed objectives. They were not missed in the first game.

It's just hard to create legitimately unique interesting missions. The most memorable one for me goes all the way to GTA 3. Pick up a guy in a taxi and fill his scared meter by driving recklessly. Perfect! Plays both to GTAs strengths and the players natural inclinations.

Try picking up a Tiger and not letting his iritated meter (or was it your courage meter, can't remember) get too high or he starts pawing at you and affecting your driving, or escorting a gang member by helicopter with a rocket launcher and making sure no-one attacks his car. Saint's Row was still rather inventive, even at the third installment. Of course then their was the wacky game show where you had to kill mascots to get points before the time ran out, and shoot health, time, and bonus point targets. Man, they had some crazy activities. And they had a couple missions where you had to decide to save one character or the other (you could only save one) at totally different locations in the city.

Whats deleveling?

-------------------------

Agree on the repetitive comments. Maybe more puzzle type probs would help. I was finding Skyrim had the same issue actually (search, kill baddies, kill a big baddie, pick something up, goto whomever).

Best moment from the other night – fatty and I gambling at Moxxxi's, I get three psychos, fatty and I elbowing each other to get out the door of the bar first.

Worst moment from last night - inventory confusion as fatty buys a health regen mod that's slightly better than mine, I sell off my extra ones accidentally selling off my main, have to rebuy it at a huge premium, 5 minutes later fatty gives me the one he just spent coin on because he finds a better one, an hour later a find an even better one in a machine and buy that at a premium. I'm kinda low on cash now.

I'm loving the one-two punch of players running different combos. Slag-corrosive is the big winner for me.

I remember thinking at the time that I was going to enjoy having you learn the hard way. I mean, at worst we'd revive you.

I didn't play last night. fatty is away so I'm going to try to minimize my time on and stick to side missions til he gets back.

http://www.destructoid.com/borderlan...s-235583.phtml

Playing as a sniper in Borderlands meant that you got to see a lot of heads pop in juicy showers of blood and eyeballs. Going through Borderlands 2 with a similar build, I started to notice that headshots were no longer satisfying, as skulls remains defiantly shatterproof. I'm not alone.

The gore seems to have been toned down from the first game, to the point where specific limb-shredding no longer seems possible. Total body disruption is doable, and there's still plenty of blood, but those critical hits just don't feel as critical anymore. Elemental deaths aren't quite as torturous as once they were, either, leading to a game that's still violent, but not as gratifyingly brutal.

According to comments from Gearbox, this was the cost of having a universally "uncensored" game. Basically, no one territory deals with censorship, but the overall game worldwide has had to be toned down. However, Randy Pitchford offered the possibility of potential patches later down the line, and welcomed fans to join the debate.
Yep, headshots definitely felt nerfed, though fatty insisted I was wrong. Sucks.

Yeah, that's a shame. IMHO the Gears of War franchise still holds the gold standard when it comes to headshots. There's just something about that animation & sound that makes sniping really satisfying.

Was playing with a Gunzerker and an Assassin last night. Both higher levels than I. Both of them said that they wished they had chosen the Commando after seeing my lowly turret in action.

Any other Commando players here?

I believe you're ahead of us. S careful with spoilers.

I spent a few hours doing side-missions last night. My pace in SP is much more sedate and meticulous compared to MP. Bore seems to be paying dividends, though. I can't be sure how good I am because most enemies were either a cake-walk or pure hell. I'm definitely doing Caustic Caverns with fatty.

Oh, best weapon so far is a slag sniper. Combined with a corrosive grenade its fantastic.

---

I am curious whether 400 x 6 grenades is better or worse than the 1000s I'm seeing right now. You'd think yes, but considering how long I've had it, that would make it very overpowered compared to its contemporaries.

Noted. Only advice I'll give is to not do the missions until you have the required level.

I have several snipers, one of each element as well as a 400+ non-elemental. I only ever drop or sell when I get one thats more powerful.

I'd always take the total damage into account for nades. No idea if it works better or not, I only ever pay attention when that 1234 XP message comes up.

Pet hate 1 : those flying torpedo looking bastards.

My slag does 417, I believe.

I'm one of those assholes that doesn't mine being overleveled on main storyline. Side missions do loose their luster, though.

Have you gambled all your money away?

Until tonight I had only done the main storyline. Found a Top Gun style mission (volleyball) which was quite amusing.

So happy that I chose Axton, using a turret with rocket launchers is so funny.

Same here. The turret really comes in handy when you don't want to waste your ammo on the lesser enemies or when you need to distract a badass that is chasing you. So far all my skill points have gone to upgrading my turret. Can't wait until I unlock dual turrets and reduced cool down time.

I put a few points into shield regen and health in the Survival section, but the rest has gone to Guerrilla stuff. Might look into the Survival side a bit more though.

Sometimes we just run through areas to get to the goal and I always drop the turret just to pick up some XP while running. Far easier to kill those invisible lizards with the turret then spraying ammo everywhere.

Oh yeah, you can get a commando perk that reduces cool-down time. I also pick the turret up asap to avoid waiting too long. Apart from boss battles I can't say that I've ever been frustrated waiting for the turret.

I got up to $14,000 but then did a mission above my level. Back to about $7,000 now. Bit shitty that the extra space for ammo and backpack cannot be bought with money though.

sek can be a vexing partner. After kiting a goliath into God status last night, he managed to kill it after it got me down, then proceeded to kill other enemies while I bled out. Thanks buddy!

crosbie, I hope you're playing without us. We're at level 24 now and have completed more story missions.

The game continues to give me pretty good slag snipers, which pleases me as I just keep upgrading to match the enemies. Can't decide if the slot machine are worth it (other than there being nothing better to spend money on). I have been getting a lot of three cherry combos and got some decent green weapons out of it.

Black hole threshers are dicks.

Dropped $12k into the tip jar and came away with a pretty nice SMG. Not that I've found much use for SMGs in this game so far (been mostly using a collection of elemental snipers and a sweet 75x15 full-auto fire element shotgun) but this one I just might try out against some baddies.

Gotta disagree there, in some cases. If you're overmatched, having an electric weapon to take out shields first helps a lot. Beyond that, though, you're right. I just keep one electric sniper for cases like that but don't bother carrying around any other electric weapons.

I'd love to try out slag but I'm at level 21 and so far have only found a couple of crappy slag SMGs that have like a 10% slag chance. I'm really hoping to stumble onto a good slag sniper rifle, then my collection will be fairly complete.

In my limited experience (lvl 24) the harder to kill enemies are those that are metal - bosses excepted. My corrosive weapons seem to kill quicker than the slag ones (snipers and SMGs and pistols have been compared). Even when a slag weapon has higher damage. I suppose that you could use the anti-shield and then swap to another element, but my brain doesn't work that fast.

Did some more side missions last night, the level 3 or 4 ones. Waste of time really, you only get 1 XP for each kill, its not at all a challenge.

Gotcha. In that case I do agree; if I had to pick one element it would definitely be corrosion overall. I do a lot of switching between weapons, though, when necessary.

My corrosive sniper at 384dmg proved to be far more deadly than a 650+dmg regular sniper.

Slag comes into it's own when it's the one-two punch of slagged enemies then additional elemental damage. Right now I yearn for a good slag MIRV Grenade Mod.

New pet hate : you open a box and one of those loot grabbing motha ****az jumps out. Very hard to kill. VERY. In the 3 hours of play that I did with a mate last night, we had more than 10 of them.

Once again, thank fook for the turret.

I have a nade that does 2800 dmg. It sucks them in, explodes then does 400 corrosive damage per second.

Serious XP there. Last night we were meeting enemies and getting up to 900 XP for the kill. Those annoying hovering jobbies were around the 400 mark.

I do hate the flying enemies, especially when they zap you and the shield is at zero before you know it.

Just played nearly 3 hours with a siren, a zero and a gunzerker. The siren went from level 1 to 14 in that time.

Don't think that I ever had the shields at zero, always throwing the turret and reviving people. I went from about 27.5 to 27.75 in those same hours.

Be really good having a powerful siren and a powerful turret working together. Don't rate the gunzerker though.

With getting married, visiting my mom going through radiation, and playing Wii with my son, I haven't had much time to play. I do have a lv 12 soldier though. I am trying to plan on playing Saturdays during the day for four or five hours.

Who's down to kill some shit this upcoming Saturday?

Very productive night last night. Did the "Where Angels fear to Tread" mission. Most of us were overleveled, but holy crap it was fun. I probably made out the best last night in terms of upgrades, leaving me constantly giving away the most expensive items to the other guys out of guilt. Got an awesome magenta SMG, a second AR, three new snipers, a shield upgrade (technically three – I found one in a chest and then a slightly better upgrade in another chest right next to it). Have a new grenade mod two, if I'm willing to give up corrosive for three extra nades and about 1600 potential extra damage.

Also realized between one relic and my shields I must be very difficult to do elemental damage to.

If crosbie can do that mission again on his game, I totally want to farm that bastard one more time. Apparently he's weak to electric, which I don't think we were using (But I have a brand new sniper for).

So they released the Mechromancer a week early. ****ing $10 though (Would for $5, gotta talk myself into it I suppose).

Fatty, still thinking Siren for your next character? I think I'm off Axton and between her or the Mechromancer.
