I have an original G5 1.8 with PCIe.
why can't i use this graphics card.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....8.25.7.11.1.3
I have a huge interest in aperture as i'm moving slowly from film to digital and as I saw the demo I was simply amazed by the software. I won't ever need film again.
so why can't I use it? I've seen the 6600 in my friends computer, it's an amazing graphics card even if it's outdates somewhat.
so can I? or can I not run this card?
Do I have true PCIe 16x?

Thanks in Advance

You don't have PCI express, you have PCI-X. Unfortunately, they're not the same thing, so you're out of luck.

G5 1.8 has 3 PCI-X slots and 1 8X AGPslot, not PCI express, they are incompatable. The nVidia 6800 is available for AGP slots and is, in fact, a faster card in all likelyhood than the 6600 in a PCI-e configuration ( as the GPU in a 6600 is a stripped down version of the GPU in a 6800 ).

PCI-X is a much faster implementation of PCI. PCIe is an entirely different animal.

Think of it this way. PCI-X is a parallel bus meaning you have multiple lanes of traffic. Nice but keeping all the data in sync is a bear and the return trip is slower.

PCI Express is teh new hotness. It's like having a single lane...but 4x as fast in both directions!

Grab yourself a 6800 and beef up your ram and you can run Aperture.
