We might be seeing more stuff like that. An unrelated article mentioned that in 2019 electric cars outsold manual transmissions. Er ... ok. So I checked the numbers: 1.9% EV sales, 1.1% stick shifts.

I knew automatics were more popular than stick shifts, but 98.9% vs 1.1% ... ? Wow, that is a change since I was a kid.

A lot of cars don’t even have manual options anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if it falls below 1% soon.

All but the wimpiest model of Mustang has WAY more power than it needs. Lots of low end, which isn't good when a newb tries to give it "just a little gas." It looks like that might have had a part in this particular issue...

Had a woops moment when my car alarm system went off when one tire was being repaired due to a screw puncture. That was very loud.

Set off a car alarm inside a two-car garage once. Was so startled I jacked a finger on the door handle.

Couple years back, some asshole was dropping wood blocks off overpasses onto cars on the Autobahn. Hit one, driver and both kids unharmed, killed the mother, though.

Life in prison for murder.

When I first bought my BMW it didn't come with keyless entry, so I installed the cheapest $32 keyless entry/alarm system I could find on Amazon. It would randomly lock/unlock itself, which was a horrible thing for an alarm system to do. Not to mention, it did that CHIRP CHIRP thing every time it locked or unlocked. Including if I was working under the hood, all of 12" away from the 120dB chirp siren. Lots of jump-scares and expletives.

A little research showed that lots of people had the same issue with that box and there was no apparent fix.

I finally tore that out and installed an even cheaper $28 system that's worked perfectly.

The conjecture from the Reddit thread is it was a wind problem, not an overload problem.

In terms of personal woops, one of my cats managed to light herself on fire by walking over a candle. They didn’t teach her “stop, drop, and roll” in kitty class, so I needed to football tackle her as she ran for her life.

Same cat snuggled up next to a 200 watt lightbulb I was testing. She started to smolder.

The culprit will be lucky if he only buggered up the intake cowling, making it a “very expensive” oops. If the damage affected EVEN ONE fan blade, it becomes orders of magnitude more expensive.

It’s also embarrassingly hilarious.

He still moved at the end, so he didn't break the neck. But I'd want X-rays. He bent a steel tube that easily handled his full weight.

Around 2002, I said to myself, I should buy Apple stock, but never did it.

Maybe 2010, I said to myself, I should buy stock in hand sanitizer manufacturers, but never did it.

Excellent point. Or Bugs Bunny breaking the fourth wall in reaction... Either way, better than just a helmet cam going all over the place.
