When I'm writing files to a NTFS volume from my Mac, and then I boot into Windows, I see all these almost 0K files with the same name of the files that it copied, but they start with a period. Any idea how to turn this off and what is it for?

Thanks!

That's an OS X behavior when writing to any partition type except HFS. No way to avoid it, but they're fine to delete.

They're files for metadata that would normally be stored as a different fork of the same file on HFS.
