I was hoping I could get some help here about Disk Warrior. I'm still new to the Mac world so bear with me...
I can't run Disk Warrior on the disk it resides or the startup disk. I have two bootable drives, one is OS X, the other is 9.2. While booting into 9.2, I have managed to do DW's optimization of the OS X disk but because DW resides on the 9.2 I can run the optimization of that one. I have tried running DW while in OS X but then I can't optimize ANY of the disks. I would like to know how I can optimize 9.2 without booting into 9.2? That is, can I make another temporary boot drive or something?
One more question: I don't have exposure to good disk repair and optimization programs on the Mac. All I have is Techtool Pro 3 and Disk Warrior. Techtool doesn't seem to do much, as it has the same limitations as Disk Warrior (won't fix the startup disk). I have heard Norton Utilities can irreparably damage your hard drive.
My question is: what is a working, good disk repair and optimization program? Are there ANY that can optimize the startup disk and/or the disk the program itself resides on?
Thank you, and sorry about the long message...

You need to boot from the DiskWarrior cd in order to optimize the startup disk. Load the cd and mount DiskWarrior icon on to desktop. Restart, holding down the "c" key until you see the Mac "happy face." Once cd is booted up, you can graph and rebuild your directories, and optimize your hard drive with PlusOptimizer.
By the way, if anyone is interested, you can get the DiskWarrior extension update for OS 9.2.1 here: http://www.alsoft.com/

No, it's called "I loaned the CD to a friend and they misplaced it."

Use a RAM Disk. It's a bit of a pain but it works.
1. Open memory control panel
2. Turn RAM disk on, and create a disk of ? 4200K (4.2M)
3. Insert Mac OS System CD (bootable)
4. Restart
5. Open control panel and go to start up disk and select Mac OS 9.1 icon (click once).
6. Go to utilities and open disk warrior folder and copy the Disk Warrior (or Norton Utilities) to the RAM disk. Restart.
7. In the utilities folder launch disk warrior and scan untitled disk. Rebuild and replace when done.
8. Quit disk warrior and re-launch disk warrior from RAM disk
9. Select Mac HD in Start Up Disk (in Control Panels) and rebuild and replace.
10. Restart (ignore error messages, re: RAM disk info will be. Click the Shutdown button)
11. After start up delete disk warrior from the RAM disk
12. Go to memory control panel again and turn off RAM disk
13. Close all windows and then run Disk First Aid

Thanks for the help Spliff, but it turns out I didn't even need the RAM disk. I managed to get it to work with just my OS 9.1 CD (I totally forgot I even had it). I trick was moving Diskwarrior off of the disks being optimized. Luckily I have a spare partition, so I moved it there.
Consider this case closed. Again, thanks for the help.
