One Yankees forum I went on wouldn't allow you to post a new thread until you were on there for six months.

This one other forum I joined doesn't like people making threads for topics that can be answered in one post. They have a thread of one-question posts which (not surprisingly) turn into whole discussions.

You got a ban for what you did on ANOTHER forum? That blows.

There is a strange and seedy world of st. louis online sports fans. I've been posting with the same group of 50 or so people for about a decade, and in that time, I've seen message boards split and crazy online civil wars go down. It's the weirdest thing. One of the boards has banned any reference to the other board.

I just got my first ban after a decade of posting on message boards. IGN banned me for two days for saying something bad about the Wii. I couldn't believe it. I sent them a pretty nasty complaint that might get me in more trouble then my initial post... but **** 'em.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

You must post a picture of Steve Perry in any introduction threads.

I like MacNN's signature rules. Many car forums have signatures almost a screen tall and when people only post one sentence responses, it ends up looking messy.

I got banned from Gamefaqs for a month wayyyyy back in the day. I'm not sure what for; I was the mildest guy on the entire site.

I think it had something to do with someone suggesting that I download an emulator. I didn't even respond, but still got smacked.

Agreed. The 500x500 animated GIFs are ridiculous too.

Bombsquadgolf.com has a forum where you cant criticize products the website sells, you cant mention other forums, you cant question the moderator/owner, and if you do you will be banned for 30 years. They also fabricate tests on equipment to help push them onto its members.

Actually, I have to agree with Eriamjh, "Silly rules" could be defined as loose rules or no rules.

I believe they do, but its dwindling as other golf sites (with responsible and fair onwers) are taking away their members. The existance of that site proves that there is a sucker born every minute in need of a new Titanium driver with the word "Tour Issued" stamped on it.

There's a car forum I'm on(a particualr brand of U.S. musclecars, hmm) that has a serious Christian slant. I've been banned once or twice for going against the grain in a few threads on the subject.

I dont like it when forums do not allow discussions of politics at all, or when they create a special "members only" area where politics can be discussed.... not really a silly rule...

My brother wanted to show me a thread at a Toyota Supra-related forum, but I couldn't view it so I decided to register. Did so, and I still couldn't see it. Apparently you are banned from even VIEWING posts in their "General Non-Supra Discussion" forum until you've done something (don't know what).

So yeah I left and will not return. Jerks.

What? I love it when forums disallow political discussions. Allowing them generally leads to a whole lot of BS.

If they do allow political discussions, I think they should be hidden in a subforum like here at MacNN.

I wasnt too clear... Yeah I like how MacNN is set up with a seperate political subforum... what I dont like is how some messageboards dont even have a subforum and just ban politics altogether, or only allow a favorite few members to a private poltical subforum.

Same here (sorta). 'Cept I called some guy out for trolling on the Mac board there and he started to flip out, so I called him an ass or something else fairly tame and which he deserved.

The Source MAgazine Message Board a few years back banned the word "Eminem" after some recordings came out where Eminem is rapping like a racist.

Racism against whom? Isn't he an anti-Semite or something?

There was this one forum I had considered joining when it was free to browse for guests, but by the time I got around to it, they’d switched to a ‘write a 10,000 word application for membership’ model. By the time I had finished my application, the site had gone into maintenance mode. The note said it would be back up again soon, in a different, secure location to protect it from spammers, and to wait. It’s been a year since. I suspect they have hidden the forum from the general public, but you can get an invite from the webmaster, whose email address you have to guess, if you post certain code words proving your worthiness in other forums.

They probably use the membership applications to generate Markov chains to fool spam filters and make millions.

SomethingAwful is the worst.

I remember someone request to buy burnt copies of a program that he had the serial code to and I was banned for simply asking a question about it. Then they wanted $10 to have you get back in.. WTF?

I know of a forum that requires you to send them a certain amount of money just to even look in the buy/sell/trade section. They say that it is for everyones protection, but I am not so sure.

I know of a "rock guitar" forum where if you behave in an even slightly rock 'n' roll manner they ban you. Bunch of lamers.
