Hello all ... I have a question that I think might be fairly simple to answer. I just haven't figured it out (and searched for an answer in the Help menu, but didn't find one).

I have a MacBook Pro with the built-in iSight camera. I also have an external webcam, but whenever I try to chat using a webcam (like in Yahoo IM), the iSight camera is the default active camera.

How do I go about choosing my external webcam to work over the internal iSight camera?

Thank you!

Bob

Are you sure these apps are seeing the webcam? If they don't see it, they won't give you the option to switch.

Skype, for example, gives you the option to swap between a webcam and the internal iSight, but it needs to be enabled using macam so that other apps can see it. Your webcam may not be supported.

I've moved this to consumer hardware and components because the topic is more about enabling and using a third-party component (webcam) with a Mac and various applications.

Thank you very much for the response ... and also for moving my question to the proper forum. (Sorry about that). I'm not sure if the application recognizes my webcam or not. It very well might not because it's an older USB webcam and not a newer FireWire device. Hmmm.

Macam may help. Give it a try, including the plugin it has you put in place.

Thank you once again. I downloaded it and am working with it. I'm not sure I understand it yet, but I'll keep plugging away.
