Is it possible to grab an message sent from an application to the dock, LIKE iChat for instance, using APE?

Thats what Im not 100% sure of... how many events can the dock be sent. maybe this is a pointless discussion and I should just shut up before looking any stupider than I already am!@

Basically I would like to know when an application sends the dock an event, I suppose any event would be fine, it doesnt even need to know what the even it about, that would be cool, but I would want it to be abstract enough so I could get it from any application. So maybe general notifications would be enough.
