Actually, I think that good basestealers ought to be good poker players. Something about not tipping off to the opposition what your hand is. I was never good at that.

My username just seemed natural for me to use being as my last name is Duff and this is a mac forum. With that said, this is now my first post here although I had been lurking for a while. I'm a Windows XP user about to make the switch to OSX. My new white 2.0Ghz Macbook arrives in 2 weeks. Hope you people don't mind a few newb questions now and then.

Mine is from "Shortcut To Moncton", the title of a song by one of my favourite bands: I Mother Earth. It's from their 1996 CD Scenery & Fish, which is also one of my favourite albums. They took the name from a road sign in New Brunswick that used to point to a shortcut to the town of Moncton; I remember driving by it many times when I was a kid. I've loved that song for so long now it's almost crazy to think about it, and it seems no matter how much music I listen to I can always come back to it and have my mind blown.

I found slpdLoad while looking for a Halo multiplayer handle. Found it in a list of Mac OS X processes and liked the sound of it.

I posted to the old SportBrain forums a long time ago. I needed an animated gif of an animal walking to go with a username - which fit the theme of the exercise forum. I happend to find an aligator and that's been my forum name ever since.

I made my accentuated name while I was active in the "Star Trek Elite Force" scene back in the early 2000's. Back then, you were considered L337 if you either had accentuated characters or a solid block "" or even a hollow block of text " ".... (I'm typing this from a Windows machine so i don't know if it'll even show up on Mac computers though)

Why 'confusion'? Because i come out of nowhere and leave no trace..... well, except for making the AI announcer say that I have the enemy flag and captured it....

Don't bully me, I got an Uzi... HOO-HAH!

My user name is quite self-explanatory... I love the Macintosh and I love unsweetened McIntosh apple sauce. LOL I bought my first Mac in 1997 - Power Macintosh 5400/180 - during Apple's dark days. Before that I was an AMIGA user, but when Commodore went bankrupt I could not bring myself to buy a Windows computer at the time. I naturally progressed to the better platform, simply because of the Mac OS GUI.

I think my screenname is very childish (made it in 5th grade) I hate it, but I have also come to realize that it is STUCK with me, Meh...

I checked my Driver's License...

While I certainly understand the appeal of creating an online avatar and identity, I feel that signing my posts with my name directly adds an element of accountability. By using my name, I'm signaling that if I were to be a bad member of the community, by trolling, flaming, or other grief-causing attacks, It's Me, Colin Davis, doing it... It's not my Avatar, or some faceless nick.. It's Me.

I love the mountains and used to climb a lot. I am still a mountain search and rescue instructor. A chronic knee problem keeps in front of the computer more now. I also love photography, skiing, sailing, and cycling. I am spending more time on my bike lately to strengthen my knee.

Back in time before Dick Cheney invented the Internet, some of my friends used to nickname me "stone". When the Internet arrived in my town (roughly 1995), I added the "Cyber" prefix, so I became "CyberStone". Back then, I didn't use IRC, but the venerable Hotline network.

Some months later, I discovered the IRC world but I found that my nick was too long for the 8-9 characters limit. So I looked for a new nickname that represented a cool technology that has a great potential and I stopped on FireWire. It was just coming out, but I felt it would become huge and that it was really impressive and promising. It was supposed to be on every TV, VCR and camcorders, so that they would all connect together via a single interface and talk to each other automatically. Unfortunately, the revolution never happened

*Free anecdote regarding my handle: the fact that I chose "FireWire" once saved my life! Many years ago, I fell asleep at the wheel and the song "Fire Wire" by Cosmic Gate started playing on the radio. The song begins with some silence/static, then a loud voice says "Fire....Wire!!" and that woke me up just in time, because it was like someone was calling me!

I wanted a French name and I was supposed to be called Monique when I was adopted, but my sister preferred my real first name to it.
