I am trying to write an article but am confused about the differences between American, British and Dutch numbers. I am talking about currency here.

1.000.000 miljoen
1.000.000.000 miljard
1.000.000.000.000 biljoen

please specify how you name these numbers and which country you are from

That system is referred to as the "long scale" and used not only in the Dutch language, but also in French, German, the Scandinavian languages, most of continental Europe actually.

In English (the "short scale") it's
1,000,000 one million
1,000,000,000 one billion
1,000,000,000,000 one trillion

AFAIK it's the same for the US and the UK nowadays. The UK used to be different. They officially switched from the other system (the long scale) in 1974. In the US we've always used the short scale.

This wiki page is also helpful (particularly the second large table toward the second half of the page).
