Hi,

There are several programs that allow you to run Windows XP on an Intel based mac. What's the best program out there? Is it parallels, or something else?

Thanks!

There are two options: Parallels and BootCamp.

Parallels lets you run Windows "inside" OS X, so you can use both at the same time. Performance, especially for graphics, suffers using this way.
VMware will release a product like this soon; it may even be free (their Windows and Linux apps are).

BootCamp just gives you the drivers so you can install Windows on the "bare metal" hardware of a Mac. This is just like running Windows on any other computer.

A third option is on the way...VMWare. It's out in beta form. I don't know when it will be released, but it might give Parallels a run for its money.

Hopefully 10.5 will include Xen support, which is far more compelling a solution than both Parallels and VMWare, IMHO.

There are three solutions.

1. Boot Camp. The most complete experience. Just like running Windows on any other PC. The only way to get full hardware support.

2. Parallels/VMWare (virtualization). Tons more convenient, but has limited hardware support (esp. video card) and is a little slower.

3. Crossover. Doesn't need Windows at all. Very limited software support — a few games work though, like Half-life.
