Is there any way to play a DVD ISO in Front Row without having to mount it first?

None that I'm aware of. There may be a Front Row plugin that adds that ability.

frontrow-isomounter - Project Hosting on Google Code

Found this. Don't have any ISOs so can't test it myself.

Yay! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Too bad there's nothing to download.

I didn't notice that before. There isn't even any source code.

That one's a dead end.

LAME. I got my hopes up, then realized that there was no download.

I use RipIt sometimes to rip my DVDs, and it can save to ISO... I really like doing it that way, but I too wish they could be mounted in Front Row.

Front Row has plugins? Or is this one of those hackish things?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

It has plugins but it's not supported by Apple for 3rd party use. Look inside its package. There are numerous 3rd party plugins for Front Row.

DVD Assist is for Front Row 1.x on Tiger. It is not for Front Row 2.x.

have you considered xmbc? It says it'll play from an image file.
