A RAPIST, who used a sharpened cutlass to he lp penetrate a 15-year-old virgin, was spared corporal punishment yesterday as he was sentenced to 20 years in jail for his crimes.

The victim's father told the Daily Express that he wanted the attacker, David Herel, to be flogged to send a message to other offenders.

"So much people getting rape out there and they are not strong enough to come forward and give the evidence," he said.

Herel, 31, of Amaroosingh Street, Longdenville, Chaguanas was found guilty of rape, wounding with intent and two counts of false imprisonment on March 15, and Justice Larry Lalla, presiding in the Port of Spain Fourth Criminal Court at the Hall of Justice had postponed sentencing to yesterday.

Wait, the guy used a sword to assist him in raping a 15yo girl? If I was the father that guy would not live to see trial.

Yes, yes, emotions, emotion, we know all that. I, guess nearly 99% of fathers would say all that, but still, back in the real world, it hardly ever happens.

But do you think that corporeal punishment would do the world some good? (with or without a combinational prison sentence?)

Like sharia stuff, steal a bread once, you get some harsh words, steal a bread twice, lose a hand?

(yes i know, stealing a bread and rape aren't exactly on par, but if corporeal punishment is permissible, what crimes will be eligible?)

Hitting people with sticks has never solved anything.

Corporal punishment is tempting, and capital punishment moreso, but I'd be happy just to see rape reclassified as a form of aggravated torture, rather than a separate crime. That should boost the sentence to something a bit closer to what's appropriate.

For true justice, corporeal punishment should be delivered by the father, outside of law, then the father punished accordingly too.

That would really help your daughter to recover from this horrible ordeal. Visiting dad in prison would surely be a highlight of her life.

I agree with Millennium about the torture aspect. Rape is a crime that's all about power, and the rapist uses the victim's body against her. It is NOT about sex; sexual anatomy is typically the "weapon" and the target, but it's not sex itself that's the point. The point is using someone's most private and personal parts to hurt them.

Put the guy in a not-too-well monitored jail and find out what a bunch of other, probably tougher, guys do to rapists...

The continuation of rapes is real evidence that just person in prison isn't working.

Actually, it seems that letting them out of prison is the problem.

Holy Crap! and this from a person that advertises the red cross in his signature.

Let me translate this?

basically you're saying that you are pro corporeal punishment.

However, instead of (to support) changing your countries punishment system, you opt the cowards way out and prefer to feed convicted people to a rotten-to-the-core prison system where you know you'll provide yet other rapists with fresh meat.

Not since prisons (and not only in america) are something like rape academies... one only comes out a rapist or rapee or both...

the continuation of rapes is real evidence that:

there's something severely wrong with our society

-or-

there's something severely wrong with the way we view rape

Of course it doesn't 'solve' anything, but it doesn't create yet another problem either, like jails to... It seems there is a need for retribution when somebody does something wrong. The question is which is best in several ways: best for the victim, best for the criminal and best for a society.

Also, note that corporeal punishment needn't be violent. What if Herel simply wakes up one morning after his trail to find out that there's no dick anymore? Simply surgically removed, a neat new little peehole placed where used to be him manlyhood?

No, this will fit in both other options, i hope in the first. A societies view of itself should include it's bad apples. If it's nature taking over, that nature should be part of society.

Yes you're right, cooler heads would prevail when some dirtbag cuts open your 15yo daughters vagina with one of these:

And then proceeds to rape her.
