http://www.mantissa.net/blog/2006/06...-ipod-shuffle/

Using a metal knife he started to ease the bottom of the case off… then with a kind of jabbing notion started to hack at it well then Chris T … I mean “he” must have hit a small capacitor and I found him running around the room swearing and screaming like a school girl wondering what to do. The iPod basically exploded in his face and caught fire, sparks flying and thick black smoke, and in the end he placed it on an electric fan, which in turn started to turn black from the smoke and heat coming out of the tiny little ipod…

Knives and batteries don't mix! Just say no, kids. Is there a Darwin award for people who don't die from stupidness, but still hurt themselves?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

If this didn't have "iPod" in the title... it wouldn't even be news.

so... don't attack your ipod with a knife? or any battery for that matter...

I once drilled a hole in a battery - it was stuck and the only way to get it out - hissed a bit when opened. I did take precautions - shielding etc (roof tiles)

I smell a lawsuit!

Or maybe a petition?

Or even a protest!

Why sue the knife company? Sue Apple for not having a warning label: "Do not jab and twist knife into the circuitry"

Most batteries DO have a 'do not puncture/burn' warning on them, IDK about the inside of the shuffle though. That thing is made out of water and puncture resistant ballistic material, he must have been trying HARD.

very true.

i saw a man on TV today that was complaining he got stuck in a wet muddy bog. hes probably going to sue the council. but i mean come on: its not anyones land, you cant sue anyone, blame it on god.

its like when that woman put her dog in the microwave to dry it off. it died, and she tried to sue the microwave company for not including a warning.

For god sake! if we lived in a world completely ruled by lawers and stupid people, we would be in chaos.

Urban legend
There was some woman who had a dog, which she would put in the oven to dry off after giving him baths. I thought this was stupid enough, but then the woman gets a microwave oven.

While being "dried off" in the microwave, the dog explodes and (obviously) dies. That's stupid enough.

But the woman sued the company which made the microwave for some obscene amount of money -- and won. Because there was no warning label on the microwave oven.
Although there have been a few verifiable cases of pets subjected to microwaving, each of them were deliberate acts of cruelty, perpetrated by twisted souls who knew all too well what they were doing. Micropoochings arising from a lack of understanding of the technology, however, are still incidents of lore only.

Apple should sue the guy for cracking open the damn thing and taking a knife to it as it resulted in an explosion and bad press.

"Hello, what have we here?
