My trash can icon in the dock shows that it's empty, however it's filled with a bunch of items.
If i click on the trash can, a window opens and i can see the documents, pictures, etc. And i can delete them and refill the can again. But the dock trash icon still shows as empty.

Is there a fix for the icon in the dock? Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm running 10.9.2 on the newest iMac.

If guessing is allowed...

The Dock preference may be corrupt. It is named "com.apple.dock.plist".Try deleting that. It can be found at:

/Users/(your name)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

A restart may be required.
