'Hurricane'

...and for something more realistic, the 'Gladiator'...

...very nice.

i hear the top one can park like a crab .. (sideways) .. but from that picture, it looks like it can turn on a dime (rotate without traveling) ... maybe that's one and the same (drive in at 90 degrees and rotate to fit the parallel parking spot) ... talk about maintenance headache

That first thing is totally cool!

Problem is most people would get one just to go to the drive in at Burger King.

Yep.

Nice to see some people here in MNN appreciate Jeeps, and not just sports cars/crotch rockets. (Referring to the always present threads on Ferrari's, sport compacts etc...)

Any of you posters actually own a Jeep or some other 4X4 that you actually use to get onto some trails/rocks?

2000 TJ

Well, I've been out once. I haven't had a chance to get back out on the trails since May. Nearest park is a good 3+ hour drive away, and I like to sleep in.

Side mounted spare is not so much about looks, but about tradition. But you are right it is not for everyone. Anyways I think it looks purrrrty and tuff at the same time. Nothing like showing off a full sized spare.

That's what I like to see. Hasn't got any of that '1000 horsepower, titanium strut but will never see the mud because I can't afford to scratch it' nonsense and will still take you exactly where you need to go. Needs a bit of skill to drive too.

Christ, I hate SUV drivers who just buy these things to climb kerbs. No offence to anybody who actually uses them for the purpose they were designed for.

No doubt that it was the precursor to the current WK. (i.e. Current Grand Cherokee)

theres not a whole lot of mud when you plow, and that pic was taken right after we "restored" it, ie polished the paint a little.

yeah, they should drop the aft engine and release it in a translucent/shiny green Halo 2 edition as the warthog. Kind of like the cheesy Tombraider jeep but cooler.

That's after a good day on the trails in Sedona, AZ. Rained some that day.

That's what happens when you pull someone out of trouble and think you can do better. You get stuck too.

Way old pic. My dirty slut of a jeep has only worn a bikini top for the last 3 years. She's a dirty girl, but fun to play around with.

G4ME: Do you worry about your windshield cracking? I've wanted to put mine down but I've heard the windshield is prone to cracking and it might be hard to get the rollbars realligned w/ the windshield frame. Mean setup though.

Nope. The Land Rover Defender 90 is, if we're talking stock (when that 4.5" lift, those 35 inchers and the lockers go on, it's a different matter).

Here's a concept for Jeep. Live axles at the front of the next Grand Cherokee. Jeep are going too funky/pussy for my liking - I'm contemplating whether or not to stock up on WJ's before they stop selling them here and I'm forced to buy junk with... ...ewww... ...independant suspension. If I wanted to compromise off-road ability for comfort I'd just go buy an X5.

the only time we broke the windshield was when it was up on the first drive when a truck kicked a rock up.

As for misaligning, there is no roll bar, but putting the top back on took some negotiating and the drivers door doesn't really line up. Not that it matters thou, whenever we use it to plow, the windows are down and the back hatch is up, to prevent fogging.

Heh, yeah, I honestly can't remember if I'm on windshield #3 or 4 now. Arizona has way too many rocks on the roads and big trucks to launch them directly at my jeep, not to mention the verticalness of the windshield just does a really bad job of deflecting stuff. I wouldn't even bother washing the thing if it wasn't for the massive dead insect cemeteries that tend to build up.

Putting the tops back on has always been a pain with the plastic hard top. It was hard enough 3 years ago, I wonder if it will even go back on now after sitting on the ground for so long. Oh well. Thx for the info, I'll have to try dropping the windshield when it gets warmer.
