Been a while now...

I have honestly been busy w/ other things, but I've come to realize that a large factor is that I simply don't really feel the same way about Watercolor now as I did when I started themeing... when I have free time I don't see myself *wanting* to work on it anymore unfortunately.

So, I've decided to open the theme up to the community for those interested in working on various parts and contributing/collaborating with each other until it's a solid theme w/ plenty of app skins. I don't know if this is going to work at all, but it's the best thing I can think of at the moment to potentially get this theme updated.

I'll be posting the beta quality Watercolor.guikit shortly, as well as the Watercolor.tpark for editing in ThemePark.

Here's an imcomplete list of what needs to be done:
toolbar buttons for olive and cherry variants (new style completed for blue and silver, use as reference)
 metal buttons
various finder elements (column view, finder labels, etc)
 updated white menu extras (?)
 appskins appskins appskins
icon set converted to icontainer (wagmedia?)
 additional desktop pictures
anything else you guys and ladys want (... i wonder if i'm just talking to myself right now)
but lets avoid additional color variants until the current theme is entirely updated

Obviously if I post a .tpark this will get out of hand in terms of collaboration and getting all the mods into one .tpark, so I'm still fairly uncertain how this will all work out. Please be sure to post ahead of time what you will be working on so that we don't have 5 people plugging away at the same area of the theme.

As long as people make clear what areas they will be working on then we can just bring it all together in the end.

Thank you for reading this far. I don't know if this will be successful (and I'm not too concerned), but it would certainly be nice if a community-based project like this is doable.

Carbon,

I'm glad you're willing to make this an open source project. I'd really been wanting this theme for awhile as I absolutely love the toolbar widgets. Hopefully someone can pick up the ball and run with it.

I can't get it either... and I feel your pain about the dialup, Carbon. If you could arm me with some layer styles I would be more than happy to contribute some elements.

okay you guys i'm going to make it so the graphite varitions of the themes have the newer widgets that are on carbon's site. i like them a LOT better than the ones that are in the current version, so i'm going to fix those first. if you want those to be the aqua variation, post here, or if you want them both to be the newer widget style, post here.

I say the new widgets rock and should be the default for all the versions.

active
inactive
selected and pressed.

if you guys like those (i had to recreate 'em) i'll make 'em the default.

someone needs to fix the metal windows, i don't know how to do the metal windows, maybe someone skilled at them (mac15 maybe?) can fix them so they're the same as the regular windows.

i'm going to go fix the push buttons, there's something wrong with them; they don't seem to flash like they're supposed to on the default state.

My vote: Keep the original widgets, but maybe in the graphite mode.
I really can't wait for this theme. I'm just wondering if an iTunes theme is possible.

The beta even kicks ass. The old widgets need to be left in as a variant btw.

i guess its part of the theme to have the buttons the same hue as the title and menu bar, but they are damn ugly like that, and aside from the cherry version, all the buttons look inactive, and that is a very very bad thing! i think AT LEAST the graphite system preference switch should include a version where the normal state of the buttons being the same white color of the Tab buttons when they are in the background, and then have the theme variant specific color only on the pressed state so you only see it for a few seconds while the button is pressed. it would make the theme much better looking at first glance while keeping the color variant theme going through all the elements.

but i must say the grey version (besides needing white buttons) is very nice!

I dunno about this. I think it's going to be a clear case of too many cooks ruining the broth.

If you want my opinion, which you probably don't, doing something like this is a one-man job. If you turn it into a community project, you're going to get a bunch of people who have different goals for the theme - even if the differences are really slight.

Me, I like the theme the way it is, I just want it finished (app skins and the like). Other options and mods are cool, but I think y'all should finish it before you change the concept.
Hi. Nice to see you. You look lovely.

Sorry for the hiatus guys, I seem to be doing alot of that lately. I'm a working lad now

I've only just downloaded the package (grr dialup) and it doesn't seem to bad. So I'll start working on it during the nights after work. I'll try to keep you guys posted as much as I can via this thread and my website.

I've been working on it once every few days, its really hard to get into it after you get home from work. But its moving atleast, the base blue theme is done and I've moved on to the olive version.

It looks really nice...however, i think it'd look better with the redisgned close, minimize and zoom widgtes that Carbon once posted on his preview. I hope you make a version with white menubar, since i've never managed to get used to darker ones.

regards.

Well ultimately the idea is to give the entire community a part in this if they are interested in the theme or simply interested in working on a theme to gain experience... The goal is to get as many appskins as possible at this point, because the theme itself was in pretty good shape before I opened it up and Chris has been putting all the final touches to it.

In the end, I would like to take what the community has developed and maybe add some additional widget and/or brushed variants to make one .guikit complete w/ appskins and at least two variants of each color variant (so 8 themes, or 12 or 16... whatever we can come up with).

On the icon front... when I released the theme orignally (a long time ago, maybe December of 2002?) Chuck of Wagmedia did an awesome icon set that people seemed to enjoy. I was hoping to get that set updated and more complete for Panther, and also bundled as an iContainer. I realize that Chuck is just as busy as any of us and I haven't heard from him in regard to the icons, so if you would like to do a set of icons for this theme or get in contact w/ him and get permission to update/continue the existing Watercolor set then that would be just as cool.

Thank you for your interest widget : widget, if you have time to do icon work I know they'll turn out excellent.

I'd love to see some icons with this set and guys once I finish all the colours (no app skins yet) I'll release another beta/alpha to the public just to get some opinions. I'm sure you guys will like the small changes I've made.

Well ladies and gents, I've reached what I think should be beta 1 . Yes Carbon was upto beta 4 but I'm going back to beta 1.

Alot has changed but here is what still needs to be done. I've included 2 version for people to download. A theme only version so people can try the theme out and one with the themepark file instead. Please let me know if you decide to make changes so I can repackage everything so we don't have several copies floating around.

To be done:

- A-sync arrows
- App skins
- Finder Buttons for Cherry and Olive
- Mod Grey Finder Buttons to match Blue Version

Here are the download links:

That looks outstanding so far (in original blue). My only request/suggestion is to please be complete with the AppSkins. There's nothing more disheartening than to have a great theme, only to have it sort of ruined by ugly Aqua elements showing through in apps like iCal or Address Book.

Those of you with the skills (and the massive amounts of time to get things done)... Well, you rock. Thank you for your hard work.

Congratulations, outstanding theme IMHO. Also very mac15-ish, if you allow me

The menu item caps need filling (right now all right sides of drop down menu's have white strokes) - just a minor thing I noticed.
What was odd : in ThemePark Preview the brushed metal window fill looks messy (i.e. gray fill from window title downward and to the right in title bar), while after installing everything is OK.

Thanks for sharing.

Very mac15-ish... hehe cool

Carbon mentioned to me that the menu caps were out a touch but I can't see them on my LCD (iMac G4) I'll fix them up anyways. And about the brushed metal windows, thats how themeparks preview handles brushed windows.

After some more testing, I notice the scroll bars are popping up.
There's a serious warning about that in ThemePark, once you reach the scroll bar listing. As a novice, I don't quite understand it yet, but it's about transparant images. Sure a themer as yourself must be able to fix it, because now... it's like... a bit of a bummer.

Good luck, and thanks for listening.
