New in Tiger, you can run ls -e from the command line and see the ACL permissions of your files and folders. While I don't have an immediate use for ACLs, I'm sure I will in the future. However, I much prefer the GNU coreutils' ls because of it's colored output. But the GNU ls doesn't seem to support ACLs.

Am I going to be forced to choose between BSD ls and GNU ls? Will GNU ls be supporting ACLs in the future?

GNU ls has supported POSIX style ACLs for several years now (possibly 6). It may be that your version of GNU ls does not have the ACL capability compiled in. I don't have Tiger yet (supposed to ship to me today) so I can't test it for you.
I do know that GNU ls works with ACLs in Linux.

os x's ls supports color. just set CLICOLOR=1 in your dotfiles or create an alias to ls -G
