All politics aside, he's a pretty high-profile user and it'd be interesting to see his playlists.

Pres. Bush and his iPod are pictured in this "day in his life" photo essay at VII Photo Agency's website. I just discovered this site this morning and it looks to be worthy of a bookmark.

The Prez has good taste in music players. I think the man has good taste in suits too.

His playlist? That would be kind of interesting for a second, but then YOUR playlist wouldn't be too interesting to a lot of other people either. It's a personal thing, ya know?

While I'm no fan of Bush, I've often noticed that his suits are rather sharp and he has a really good selection of trench coats when giving speeches outside in cooler weather.

Yeah nice iPod... but he didn't have a seat belt on in the limo. It may not have been moving but he's kind of propping himself up like it was. How'd you like to issue that ticket!

Why would you get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt in the back seat?

In most if not all States yes.

D.C. Law Info

I think someone should probably be making sure the U.S. President is protected by way of seat belt use more so than anyone else in the U.S. Though the odds of him being in an accident are of course extremely low since every road in his route is blocked off as his motorcade move through.

Just an observation... I mean I could care less to be honest but don't ya know the first time I forget to put mine on I'm getting pulled over.

Seatbelt wear by back seat passengers is required in many, maybe even most states. The only time this is typically enforced is when there is a traffic stop and the officer doing the stop observes that not all passengers are belted in. Or at the scene of an accident, if the back seat passengers have been ejected, the driver is ticketed. I don't think anyone is going to stop a presidential motorcade for a seatbelt check, or anything else for that matter-they're coordinated in advance so that the local PD just stays out of the way and controls other traffic.

No one CAN stop a Presidential motorcade. The first cop to try and do so would get a bullet in the forehead from the Secret Service. Once the motorcade is in motion it NEVER stops until it reaches its destination. Think about it: if you were some bad guy out to harm the President would it be easier to attack a stationary target or a moving target?

What gets me though is how they close off the sreet for so long before the motorcade moves through. They might have traffic stopped at a standstill for 15 minutes waiting for the motorcade to pass: That sucks big donkey balls when you are trying to get around DC.

Although former President's don't get the same treatment. I saw George Bush (the 1st) in a small motorcade in Georgetown a few years back. The stopped at a light and I didn't know it was him until I happened to glance in the back of the limo as it was driving by and saw him and Barbara sitting there. Of course, when the follow vehicle went by me there were three guys in combat gear sitting side-by-side pointing their machine guns out the back window of the Suburban.

If you have lived here in DC long enough--I am going on 13 years myself--you can guess who the dignitary/VIP is based on the size of the motorcade. Secretaries of Defense and State get a pretty sizeable motorcade themselves, but if you are Secretary of Labor or Commerce, you're lucky if you get more than two escort vehicles. Rank DOES have its privileges.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

It's not too surprising that they have things stopped for a while before you see the motorcade. They may have to have everything stopped BEFORE the motorcade gets moving, or the motorcade could be "delayed" by some minor glitch. Or both. Either way, I think a delay of 15 minutes is pretty amazingly short, considering the amount of coordination and number of moving pieces involved.

WAAAYYYY back when he was president, I say George H. W. Bush land at the Houston Police Equestrian Center. We were driving through Houston, and I noticed a large number of helicopters circling around. First, I identified the Marine 1 type helicopters-there were five of them. Then I saw the Apache gunships-LOTS of them. All of a sudden one MC1 type bird broke out of the pack and landed, while the others dispersed. As soon as I saw the Apaches, I knew it was the president, but watching the manuvers they went through fascinated me; it was very logical, and very well organized, and no bad guy would have had the faintest clue which helicopter to shoot at. He certainly wouldn't have gotten a second shot!

Sorry about that. Here in New York, seat belts are only required in the front seat, unless it's a kid, and then they need to be belted-in or in a car seat depending on their age/weight.

Same as in Texas, so the President is probably accustomed to not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat. I wonder if any states passed backseat laws in the year that followed Di's death?

Back on topic, I think it's cool that the President uses an iPod. And it's a recent model at that. I noticed in picture that he's about to ride his bike with it. I wonder if he plans on getting a Shuffle now?

(political bias aside) I wonder if he actually uses it or if his publicist or style expert gave it to him "ready to go"?

It's popular for people in the limelight to have someone keep them "hip" and I'm sure the president is no exception.

I found it interesting that just about everything he was wearing was made or from a company inside the united states. Apple, Trek, etc.

That was my first reaction as well. His publicist probably thought "hmm... the iPod used to be trendy, but now so passe that old conservative men can use it and seem in touch with 2003's fashion trends"

Then again, we know that Bush used to have a PowerBook, so maybe he's just a devoted Apple customer. Maybe he hangs around the MacNN lounge!

I can't help but laugh when people act like the iPod is a passing thing. A fad if you will.

I would argue that the iPod is more then just trendy. That's like saying the cell phone is "trendy". Portable music players have been around for decades. The iPod is just the new kid on the block.

Will Apple dominate forever, I'm guessing not, but it doesn't make the iPod a "what's not" type of device.

How do you know that? There's a picture that's been around since his days as Texas Governor showing a PowerBook at his desk. To say that he's never ever owned any type of Apple computer at all is a bit of a broad claim.

GWB: I guess I'm not supposed to be talking about brands, but since Michael Dell is my good friend and Dell is a Texas company, I'm the owner of a Dell computer.

The Mac on the photo you posted? Not his. It belonged to one of his campaign staffers, and he was merely posing with it for the photo.
