Although this 3D space shooter is by no means new... it's FREE! However, the download is not for the faint of heart - took me 2.5 hours with a pretty robust cable rate. But it runs great on newer machines, even with all graphics pumped to the max.

It's not free.

I work for Volition, and we did not release this game as freeware.

We released the source code, and apparently people think that means the game can be distributed freely, which is incorrect.

This file is techincally illegal, but Interplay owns the trademark, and they probably wont do anything to stop this illegal distribution of FS2.

i'm downloading it. Thanks! ET was another great 'free game'.

But.. I guess I don't understand the difference between 'releasing hte source code' and making the game 'free'. I mean, if you release the source code, that means that someone could port it to another system, and use it and disperse it. I don't think they could SELL it, but they could distribute it. So why is it illegal to distribute the game you released a source code for?

Releasing the source code means people can make mods for the game.
