Every time I try to recall old mail items, I get the following message:

The message from [email protected] concerning “Weekend Garage Sale” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.

What is going on here? If I read the original mail, doesn't that mean that the item WAS downloaded from the server?

Do you mean Mail.app? I'll assume you do.

Mail > Preferences... > Accounts > [account] > Advanced > "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing:"

This is my first post here that someone actually answered! Thank you very much for the help. Silly question, but perfect answer.

Be VERY careful when setting up new mailboxes, or deleting old ones...

When trouble shooting I have lost entire mailboxes..

You don't have it because you don't have an IMAP mailbox but a POP3 mailbox. This option only makes sense with IMAP boxes, it'd be kind of a moot point with POP3 mailboxes

Now, the "error message" only appears on mail I have SENT. How do I do this:

You need to take this account online in order to download it.

The status is already "online," otherwise I wouldn't be able to receive anything new.
