It'd be rather impractical, but it could happen.

Since podcasting necessarily involves free distribution and accessibility to anybody (full democratization of radio, if you will), you're missing the two most important aspects of the mechanism. (I did mention "downloadable".)

As per usual, I disagree. The one aspect that CDs and podcasts share that vinyl, 8-track, cassettes, etc. lack is you were able to time-shift on CDs at the push of a button. At least for myself, the ability to listen to the part I wanted when I wanted with just a push of a button was all of the allure.

Podcasts are a development of radio, not of physical media. You can't really go by names, but in this case, iPod and broadcast do tell the heritage. The whole thing started as radio shows turning into online streams and then turning into downloadable files, not as physical media being turned into shows.

If you will, it's applying some aspects of physical media to a medium that never had any random access at all.

But it couldn't happen until the physical medium (as opposed to the "file" as a "virtual" medium) could be bypassed altogether — by the iPod.

How does this negate my point of comparison between the two?

You claimed to disagree with me after I pointed out why the image of a CD has no place in the Podcast app.

Compare all you like.
It doesn't change that CDs are the ancestor of the Music app, while Podcasting is repackaged broadcast radio.

It's not important, though.

A CD is not going to happen, and the tape machine has been sadly eliminated from the interface, so whatever we settle on isn't relevant to where Apple is going, anyway.

Did I say the podcast should use a CD image?

I'm confused as why there's separation between the two at all on iOS, to be honest.

I *think* so:

Ah. The implication there was that in today's world, I think the CD is the physical form of audio media that is the lowest common denominator (I'd have said it was cassette in 90s). Compared even to vinyl, the reel-to-reel reeks of an obscurity that is worshiped by hipsters.

As far as my linking CDs to podcasts, my perception isn't based on the physical CD being similar, but that the interface for using a CD player and playing a podcast are similar (And that the interface for using a radio and podcast are not).

Have I explained myself better?

They should have made it a picture of a click-wheel iPod.

Ok. For the record I understand your radio > podcast comparison as well.

Yeah, what the hell? I've been asking for brown stars for years.

I dunno.

Those ghosts look pretty skeuomorphic to me.
