Any way to do something like RegisterEventForHotKey in Cocoa so we can use hotkeys in Cocoa?
If not, has anyone had success calling the carbon from cocoa (I doubt it), or some sort of low-level hack?

There is no Cocoa hotkey API. Why do you doubt people have had success calling Carbon from Cocoa? Lots of applications do it! After all, Carbon is just another C library. OTOH, there are some issues with carbon events in Cocoa applications, I think.

I doubt it for that reason
You prolly have to use the Carbon event model just to get that to work.

The only thing you can do is file a radar requesting an equivalent API in Cocoa.
