I have the following PC

AMD 64 4000+
ATI x1800XT 256mb
1gb PC3200
Soundblaster x-Fi
WD 7200 80gb
Sony 2xL 4x DVD +-
Memorex 56x CDRom
MSI Mobo
Thermaltake Tsunami case
580W PSU
Linksys Wireless
Samsung Synchmaster 930B w/ DVI-DVI cable
Microsoft Intelli Keyboard
Creative Inspire 2.1
Logitech g5 gamer mouse

1) how much do you think I could get for it in almost new condition

2) how would it stack up to a 2.33ghz 2gb x1600 256 250gb iMac in the following categories (multitasking, gaming, pro aps..) (all games would be run on windows partition for better results)

any other comments welcome. trying to decide if i should sell the PC for the iMac (just keep in mind gaming would occur)

Adam

Asking a Mac forum the value of your PC will only get you one answer...

As for performance the Mac has faster hardware than what you listed.

yeah.... its just the gaming i am wondering about. the x1600 is a good card but im wondering what would happen when the next-gen games come out since you can't upgrade the graphics card... I wonder how much i could get for the PC cuz if it's not much, i might as well keep it for now since i dont have any headroom to add to the value to afford the iMac.

1) Eh, $800 with the display.

2) Your PC is so RAM starved that the iMac would be faster for everything except games. IIRC the X1600 in the iMac is slightly underclocked, so it's worse than it appears.
That said, I think the iMac will be fine for most gaming: WoW, anything on the HL2 engine, etc. It's going to fall all over itsself with Crysis turned up to the highest settings, but your PC would too.

blah. would it work to get an external HD JUST for windows and windows apps on my MBP, then boot to that volume? i have the 120gb and only have 17gb left...and id like to leave that space there.

so could i grab another 250gb Lacie and make it my XP drive?

I know Windows can boot from USB, and Macs can boot from USB, but I don't know if Macs can boot Windows from USB.

I'd grab a 2.5" bus powered external for your data and put Windows on the internal.
