I'm trying to install phpbb.com's message board. So far, I've successfully installed PHP on my server and MySQL on my server and phpbb.com's admin interface comes up to install and set up, but now it asks for a database file before it will go any further. I don't have one yet, and I don't know how or where to get this and how to install one. Can someone help?

I've figured out I can get this from my host provider, but it's a slow process - they tell me they don't truly 'support' PHP stuff, but if someone on staff is there who knows this, they'll tinker with it. So now I'm just working on the database thing and working with them via email - again, a slow process. This has gone beyond me in so many ways I can't even tell you. But hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

I thought phpbb created a table, hence the installer file?

It does create tables - but you need to have a database already set up.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
