I was looking at Leathermans but who else make quality folding knives? I want something simple with about a 10 to 12 cm blade.

Buck has great folders. I've had a Buck 110 for a long time, and it's a great knife. Buck no longer goes just by model numbers. Now it's the Folding Hunter.

Benchmade have some nice knives too. Doesn't seem too pricey to me.

This appears to be their high-end knife and it's only 100 bucks.

(Never mind... just found an $800 model.

i have quite a few benchmade knives, very good quality.
the 710 is a classic which looks to fit your requirements.

There is just as much variety and cost in guns as there is in knives... and dont even get started into flashlights... (surefire, fenix, jetbeam, olight, etc)

(for al those people that think a "Mag light" is king you are VERY wrong, maglight is JUST a SMALL step above the $5 plastic ones)

fenix has some awesome lights, I have a jetbeam III-M R2 and I love it, I use my leatherman blast for any cutting duties...

I carry one of the $40 Bucks, it's a partial skeleton with a locking tang, nothing but metal. It's OD green. It's the best knife I've ever owned, regardless of price. Stays sharp too. Don't have the name right now, but I know they still sell it. It also fits nicely in a spare .380 mag case on my belt (not included).

i have a laguiole (similar to this)

but i don't like it nearly as much as my other knives.

I've usually got a few knives floating around (usually in my desk) - currently, an Opinel No.8 and a Victorinox Multitool. I'm exceedingly fond of Opinel's knives for basic pocketknife tasks - however, they are ill suited to any use where you're putting considerable force on the knife (you'll damage the wood at the lock). Found this out the hard way when I used one to cut through a lot of heavy zip ties.

Wow. Browsing Victorinox Multitools I discovered this beast, containing every tool they've ever made.

Obviously ridiculous, but just as obviously a showpiece.

These are nice-looking knives. In fact, according to Wiki,

Opinel is also exhibited by the New York's Museum of Modern Art as a masterpiece of design, alongside other rare industrial objects which have defied time.

However, I want something with a finger-guard and blade lock... and perhaps an inset stopwatch with USB drive.

My current folder is an Excalibur that cost me about $12 in 1996.

It has performed flawlessly and has been through some tough times.

You don't need an expensive, fancy knife - as long as it's comfortable, tough, and as long as you take the factory edge off, you're set.

I agree. You don't want a knife that's too pretty or precious to use.
