I'm becoming one of those people who is always on pause until they really 'figure out what they want', but I'm sick of waiting. However, I'm blanking when it comes to drawing up one or two things in particular that I have a passion for or think I wouldn't have any problem with were I to pursue studying them. Maybe it's because I was a slacker in high school, never speaking to my guidance counselor or dealing with SAT/ACTs...

So, whinging aside, is there some sort of general aptitude test which exists that I won't have to rely on the results of in any major way?

GED diploma? Is that a thing?

*Whinging.

If you don't intend to rely on the results, is there any point?
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

A GED is a high school equivalency test, which doesn't apply in my case as I graduated.

And insofar as relying on the results, I mean... I'm looking for something that I can use to direct myself, not something that will determine the death or life of any future college admission application. Something I could take on a more recreational level.

From what I've inferred, I think Lat is looking for a career test.

Many community colleges are now in the business of helping students find careers versus "jobs." It has to do with the change in demographics over the past decade, as well as how business and employment have changed. It's worth a shot.

I can state from experience that finding your "calling" can take plenty of time. I was in my late 40s before I figured out that occupational therapy was mine, and part of the delay was that I didn't know there was such a thing until I was about 40. It helps to get an outside perspective (as in those career placement tests) because we can sometimes be limited by our own experiences; finding out what is really out there that might be useful or interesting or even a passion may take getting someone else to point one in the right direction.

Try politics. You're corrupt enough and seem to abuse power at the drop of a hat. Should fit right in.

And then when I figured that he wasn't going to shut up, I stayed away.

Still, gave Lat an opportunity to prove his worth.

I always thought career tests were stupid. They pretty much ask the obvious.

-What do you do good in - math, science, writing, art, woodshop, gym,... etc.

- What do you like to do? What do you have fun doing?

- Do you like to deal with people? Do you like to tinker?

I think if you really sat down, and thought about the answers to some of these questions, you'll come up with an area you are interested in.

I guess the not so obvious thing is what careers are related to the answers to these obvious questions.
