So our female duck has started laying eggs..
Anyone ever eat duck eggs?

I'm not sure. I know I had goose eggs before. But then I grew up on a farm, we had ducks and as we ate pretty much anything that was below us in the foodchain chances are that I have eaten them.

Not fertile.. The female is not with the two males right now, for health reasons... But in the future, I would assume they will be fertilized.

It's also sub-zero temps, so not the best time for her to be trying to raise some ducklings.

edit: She laid again today... Looks like we're going to be rolling in duck eggs... We're going to cook this one and see if the dogs like it. LOL

If the dogs like it? Dogs aren't exactly known for being picky eaters!

No, eat the eggs yourself, fresh eggs are so much better than the grocery store ones that were laid a month or two before.

I believe the ones I've had are salted/preserved duck eggs. Then again ... not all chinese foods come in a box with label, so .. I'd have to ask my parents. I'm sure someone else in this forum would know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, Considering how there is NO FOOD that isnt eaten regularly by some group of people on this planet, there shouldnt be such fear over "odd and disgusting food". What makes duck eggs any different from chicken eggs? Just that you dont see 'em as often? I am willing to try anything (almost), My breaking point is the bugs that are eaten in South East Asia, and Africa. I'm not that hungry ... (although most of this fear can be chocked up to socialization...)

Just make sure you cook them much longer than chicken eggs.

They're quite good. No different than chicken eggs. Give them a chance.

Now, Iguana eggs and turtle eggs... that's a different thing all together. And from what I can remember (as an 8 year old) they were good too.

My grandmother used duck and guniea eggs to bake with.

THey made much better cakes than chicken eggs.

Fried or scrambled duck eggs are a little strong for my taste.

Why? A factory-farmed chicken is much more likely to be harboring disease than a pet duck.

Now I want to raise more ducks.

Back in '94 I raised a bunch of Mallards to release on the creek where I lived. As soon as I released them, the creek went 24 feet over flood stage and my home there was destroyed.

The ducks did fine, although they didn't find their way back for weeks.

Thanks for the replies. My understanding was that many people bake with duck eggs, but don't eat them alone. I was curious as to why.

Those of you who think ducks might be a neat pet... No. They are dirty birds that require a lot of water. We ended up with ours "by mistake".. A rescue operation.
