So I've got an iBook (see sig). Using two pieces of cardboard i've managed to put enough pressure on the chip to make it boot and appear to work perfectly but I'm having some problems:

1) The iBook whether booted into OS 9 or Jaguar thinks there are two screens attached. I have no external VGA adaptor but am considering buying one to try and fix this problem. When booting and in OS 9 everything is fine, when in installation or a fresh install of 10.2 the LCD is running in 640x480, after updating to 10.2.8 it's running in it's proper resolution of 1024x768 but still thinks there are two monitors attached. I'm unsure as to whether this is because of the VGA socket, the graphics chip or something else.

2) When I do try and use the iBook in 10.2.8, it is incredibly unstable, applications quit for no reason etc. Again, I have no idea why, the only thing I can think of is the graphics chip as there is no extra RAM or Airport card.

Can anyone shed any light on these problems, also could someone be kind enough to make an image of their hardware test CD for me to test this iBook with in the hopes of narrowing down the problem? The only discs I have are the Jaguar CDs.

Many thanks

Sean.

While running software update,

Finder, Dock, Software Update and loginwindow all crashed.

After OS X has recovered, I tried to connect to a network share at which point I got a kernel panic.

I'll try and find the panic log and post it here.

Just added a 3rd piece of cardboard because it crapped out and crashed. Seems better so far. Finder is classic is crashing whenever I start it but it's fine when I start it in 9.2.2. Is there a known Jaguar classic bug?
