My friend uses Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. He is trying to send me a LARGE music file (over 25 mb). Since it is over 25 mb, he can't send it. And I haven't used tiger in a long time, so I don't remember how to create a ZIP archive, and since my friend isn't much of a tech guy, he doesn't know either. Anyone know?

Right-click (or Control-Click) on the file and select "Create Archive...".

Not a "stupid" question. It's not obvious that "archive" means a Zip file. Nor is it obvious in Leopard that "compress filexxx" means the same thing. But that's what this particular context menu item does.

You can also get to the "compress/archive" command by selecting the item and then going to the File menu...

Just don't be disappointed by the result of compressing a music file.

Rather than e-mailing, why not send via iChat or Skype, or one of those uploading web sites like yousendit.com.

My friend says that the option for creating a ZIP file has been grayed out. Perhaps it's already compressed? Anyway, he's just going to lend it to me on a CD.

This is what cheap USB flash drives are made for. I have a handful of 'em that I keep around for just such applications.
