God. I couldn't even finish the first episode. I had to turn it off when Mohinder shot himself up with the hero-making virus he cooked up in less than 30 seconds of air time and then started a fight with the worst paper villains ever. He has got no money, waste him? Seriously? $#%!"#$%!
Not to mention every character turned into any combination of unlikeable / stupid / random in the space of half an episode.
F*ck heroes. I'm out.

The board told me that erik replied to this thread, but nothing appeared in it. Let's see if my post brings it out.
edit: yes it did. After I posted, Cold Warrior's "soap opera" post got bumped to page 9 and erik's post showed up. When I hit the post button, there was no page 9.

Cold Warrior's post is on both pages 8 and 9, double post maybe? And I didn't see your **** Heroes post, even though the thread list told me you'd posted.
Also I agree about the "thugs" that came to rob Mohinder.

Oh come on, it's been this bad from the start. Totally cheesy in every respect. It's like, oh I don't know, a comic book. You'll keep watching anyway and you know it.

The pilot was better than I was expecting but hero is still the biggest idiot ever. When that girl snatched the paper why not just travel back in time a few seconds and kick her ass? When he is done with that he can travel back and kill all the bad guys when they are kids.

Coldwarrior... Peter's mom isn't Sylar's mom. She was using her powers to convince him that she was, for whatever reason. He killed his mom, remember?

I didn't think that was one of her powers. But at least it explains the scene.

What's up with Majjja suddenly finding his Brundleness irresistibly hot when just a few hours before she thought it was like the most evil thing on earth? That scene was kind of porny.

Again, being an idiot is part of his charm. He'd be unstoppable if he were actually smart.
Wow, that might be the worst picture of Kristen Bell I've ever seen.

Is this something the fans have come up with to make excuses for bad writing or the official word from the writers?

It's called an opinion, but I'd say it's something of a genre convention. See also: Superman vs. almost anyone, Thor fighting on earth, villains discussing their plans with captured heroes, the colonists in BSG still being alive...
I think you're being a little unrealistic if you expect Hiro to have complete control over his powers and the intelligence to use them correctly in any given situation. One or the other is feasible; both eliminates any and all drama from the show completely.

besides, all the people with powers are still people. people make dumb decisions. it actually is a good thing that they don't do everything perfectly, gives it more realism.

I am willing to bet, that during that part of his transformation (I say part, because it obviously isn't done yet), his pheromone levels were through the roof.

I have seriously seen better writing in porn flicks than the season opener of Heroes, so that explains a lot.

Yeah I don't get that either. Bad writers! Go back to BSG!!!
(I just FFWD through that part and forgot it ever happened)
In fact, the sooner this Mohinder person is eliminated, the happier I will be. He has got to be the most morally ambivalent, flat out stupid and uncharismatic person introduced.

The fact that he is narrating the show kind of eliminates any possibility of that happening.
But who cares? I cancelled my subscription and deleted the episodes.

This comment nails it:

The guy can travel through time and that's the best he can come up with? Killing his own brother? He never considered going back an hour earlier and maybe telling his brother what his actions would cause? The only option was to blow him away? It's ludicrous. But it was obviously done that way for dramatic effect. In other words, it makes no sense, but the writer's wrote it that way so it would be more dramatic. This is just pure laziness.
2) Prophecy. Allowing your characters to see into the future is one of the laziest crutch techniques any writer can use. Real writers figure out ways to get people to do things based on real human reasons. Lazy writers make up future-visions and prophecies to force people into doing things that the writer wants them to do, but can't think up a really good reason for.
3) Death is meaningless. Wow, Nathan got shot. Am I supposed to care? Am I supposed to be impressed after Claire, HRG, and Sylar all came back to life after appearantly dying? This is one of the main reasons I stopped reading comic books. Almost everyone who has died on the show has come back. And now Linderman's back from the dead and, of course, so is Nathan. By constantly killing people and bringing them back, the writer's have completely removed any drama from the possibility of death. Death is completely and utterly meaningless and is therefore no cause for concern. They have taken one of the must final and irreversible events in the human condition and made it boring and uninteresting.

They have single handedly removed all suspense from the show by making Sylar invincible.
I am watching Episode 3 of this season and if it doesn't do anything for me, I'm gone.
(Though it seems that Sylar is brainwashed into being a good guy, which could be interesting.)

I stopped reading comic books when I was ten, but not because of some nerdy philosophical disagreement I had with them.
Heroes is as good as anything out there. BSG has atrocious writing as well, but people seem to approve of that in 'serious' sci-fi rather than full-blown comic fantasy.
In other words: why do people expect good writing in TV series at all? Of the TV shows running today, the best written one by far is South Park!

BSG had excellent writing at times in the first season. I agree the quality has gone down, but tne big difference is that the threat of death actually has some meat behind it.
As for quality of writing in TV in general there are several shows that seem to be doing better in that dept. these days. It is unfortunate you are so willing to accept poor writing, esp. since it was looking promising in the first year.

Stewart's best joke is the one where he stares blankly at the camera...and he does it alllll the time. Colbert's hilarious, though.

I finally got to watch Heroes. I try to see the good in these things but I have to say that they've got some splainin' to do. My eyes hurt from rolling them every 3 minutes.

Pretty sure Sylar brained the guy. That's what the blood splash was about.
I liked the last episode much better than the first couple. It had, like, a coherent plot and stuff. And it followed my First Rule of Heroes — the more an episode focuses on Sylar, the better it will be. I'm still not buying that Mama Petrelli randomly gave up her middle child for adoption, though.

I just like Zack Quinto as an actor and he has very good presence on screen. It was convincing when he 'took control' of the robbery scene pretending to be an FBI agent.
He also delivers a convincing inner conflict. Gabriel/Sylar is one of the best characters in the series.
I was very happy this was a Mohinder-free episode. More Mohinder, worse episode. More Sylar, the better.

This turn of events for Sylar was just irritating. Now Sylar is the good guy, even though he's a not so good guy. Yeah, whatever. Personally I wish they'd just kill him off.
Just give more Hiro and Ando... and the cute speedy gal. Since the drama in this show is failing so miserably, let's just go with comedy.

As Mama Petrelli pointed out, this is true of HRG too.
And Peter, Mohinder and Claire are acting like villains even though they're heroes. Are you seeing a theme here?

Yeah, the theme I'm seeing is the writers are trying too hard to make them interesting because they can't kill 'em off. So far they aren't succeeding.
In Season 1, it was probably my favourite show. In season 3 I'm wondering if I should even bother continuing to watch. Hiro is holding my interest for now...
