I've been debating getting insurance for a couple things - my new tablet and my phone. I'm more concerned about the tablet than the phone, though.
I've looked at a few options - Microsoft has their own accidental damage coverage, and I've done estimates with both SquareTrade and SafeWare.
Has anyone used any electronics insurance plans? If you had to make a claim, was it painless or did you get the runaround? Anyone have a recommendation on a particular company?

I pay for all tech with my Amex card, that doubles the warranty.
2 years warranty is typically enough for me.

Two years is enough warranty, but I want to have accidental damage coverage. That's the big thing. I know that a lot of Mac users tend toward SafeWare for insurance on their hardware, so I was just curious if anyone had actually filed a claim with them.

My wife's employer supplies her with an iPhone, and they carry third-party insurance on it. It came in very handy the day she left her first iPhone (a 3GS) in the pocket of her robe, and put the robe in the wash. The insurance paid for a replacement.

No, but I fully support mandating it as a requirement for using a computer.

That's my approach as well. My only exception was the extended warranty plan I got from SquareTrade for my 55" HDTV. That was a large enough purchase for an item with a long enough shelf life to make such a plan worthwhile. But in general, I just say no to extended service plans on consumer electronics.

I get a lot of solicitations to try Squaretrade, they seem to rate really well.

I might try SquareTrade, then. Anyone used SafeWare before?
