Has anyone experienced an annoying hesitation or delay in Safari after updating to 10.5.2? I originally did the updating when it first came out (and found the delay then) and uninstalled it using my Leopard disk. I tried it again today and found the same thing happening. It is not only Safari; it happens in iPhoto and Word as well as other programs. Any suggestions on what I can do? I am running a 6 month old iMac with 2 GB of Ram. I am ready to uninstall this lastest update again but have always enjoyed having an up to date OS.

Could you be more specific about this delay? Is it on keystroke inputs, mouse response, something else? Also, does it affect everything or only certain applications? What about in the Finder?

Hello and thanks,
The hesitation is a function of the mouse. . . primarily in scrolling. I am also experiencing a momentary freeze when changing apps or just while "mousing around". when I updated each time the situation was so bad that I ended up having to shut down using the rear button. I am wondering if this has somehow created a less than complete updating .. . . just a thought. I have also had a dock that momentarily freezes and numerous beachballs. If I reboot, which usually requires the manual button method, I will get a normal running machine for 3 to 5 minutes before the above mentioned things begin all over again.

Backup now. Boot from the restore or OS install disks and run Disk Utility to check (and hopefully repair) the disk. It sounds like your hard drive is dying.

I'd say more along the lines of 94.23% chance that your Hard Drive is going, providing more hope than adams painful 95% statement. I've had a harddrive die before, its a painful experience, as you can probably imagine, just make sure youve backed your stuff up then you'll be on your way.

much love,

Andy.

I removed the update by reinstalling 10.5 from my Leopard disk. Everything has been back to normal - no delay, no hesitation. I don't doubt you analysis but now I am caught in the middle. My iMac is new since last October and has never given me a problem. My 8 or 9th mac since the Classic. Is it possible to check on the HD health with another program other than disk utility? I am including the log of my permissions repair with version 10.5.2. By the way the log was identical when I checked the health of the new install of 10.5. Not sure what to do.

Assuming your disk is OK (or at least that you are backed up somewhere else) then you could try applying the Combo update, downloaded manually from Apple Support.

Applying the full Combo update to reach the latest OS version has been known to solve a few issues. Things that cropped up with the point updates not including one or another file that your particular install did need.
