I wanted to see what iBook owners are getting in terms to total memory.

I have a 256 meg PC2100 SODIMM already. That would give me 512 meg total. But I see that some have maxed out their iBook while others stop short at 768 megs.

So a quick poll to determine the "norm", if there is such a thing.

Thanks for responding!

PS: tell me a little about what you do with your iBook too.

You might want to add 640MB to the poll since 256MB soldiered hasn't always been the standard.

I have 512MB since that's enough for what I need. No point in spending more money than necessary.

640 on my older G3 800-maxed out. I recommend doing likewise on any computer purchase with the exception of the G5 towers-you'll go bankrupt buying that much ram. In that case I would go to 1-2Gb unless I intended to do some heavy lifting with the beastie.

640 MB, iBook G4 800 here. It's okay, but in retrospect perhaps I should have bought the 1 GB stick. When apps like Photoshop and Dreamweaver start flexing their muscles among all the usual apps running I can feel the system taking a hit. Usually it's a well balanced system though

I added a 512MB stick to the existing 256MB for 768MB. Works good for doing some ColdFusion web development using Eclipse, JRun + ColdFusion, geneology software and iApps.

I maxed my 600Mhz G3 to 640MB right off the bat.

I did not vote in the poll. You were aparently only talking about new ibooks, right?

768 here. I felt the 1GB chips were a bit out of my price range and adding 512 would certainly make OSX happier. My iBook is my supplementary/sattelite machine, not my main workhorse, so I didn't feel the need to max out anything.

Your iBook must be the most annoying machine on the world with 192

256 is bad as is.

Well, I would love to have a 17" Powerbook, too. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT HERE.

i only have 256 in my ibook G4 800 - i have been wanting to get more since i got it, but i haven't broke down yet. i am able to do everything i want without it being so slow that it annoys me. yes sometimes it gets bogged down but usually it works fine, i will probably get another 512 soon. in the past i have always maxed out the ram because i used more demanding programs such as photoshop, flash....but now i just use my mac for mostly internet and music, i havent even fired up iphoto in a month or so. sometimes i think people rush to get extra ram when they may not even need it. with 256 i can run safari, itunes and photoshop all at once and it runs "okay" - it seems to me the finder crawls the most out of anything running
