Hi, I bought an iiyama e2607ws , it's a 26" tft screen
How come my iMac G5 20" with mini-VGA adapter can use this as an external screen and my macbook white 2Ghz with mini-DVI-adaptor can't?
The macbook will notice there is an external screen (in system preferences), it will even specify the model and possible resolutions, but the screen on the Illyama stays black. Not VGA connected.
I hussled around with different resolutions, did the mirror screens thing.. I'm out of ideas.

Without looking at the specs for that monitor, do you need to push a button or go to a menu to select which input to use (VGA, DVI, other inputs, etc.)? You probably have it set to VGA. You would need to switch it to the DVI input.

thank you steve, however. I tried to switch screen-input but it's really hooked like macbook-minidvi-vga-TFT, I dont have a dvi cable
the macbook acts all the way like there is a second screen but the screen stays black
putting the VGA-cable to a iMac or iBook gives image though. I think the mini-dvi-adapter is damaged?

Oh, I didn't understand. I thought you were using a separate dvi connection on the monitor with the MacBook. If you're still using VGA, the problem could be the adapter or, possibly, the MacBook itself. Try connecting to another monitor.

So you're saying the monitor allows you to select the right input and you know it's not the adapter.
Maybe a resolution issue, the Mac could be applying the wrong monitor resolution, refresh, etc. Have you tried SwitchResX? It will let you set resolutions OS X 'thinks' don't work.
