What font are you using with this theme?

I don't suppose you could post your silk settings too, as I can never get the menu-bar to change.

Wow... I don't believe I've ever seen a flatter, blindingly contrasty and decidedly unusable theme in all my years of using themes.

I can appreciate "thinking different" but that is just horrible to look at.

But I applaud the effort to do something other than modding someone elses theme, at least it's something new and certainly unique.

Though I need to add that TinkerTool is still sitting in my app folder, and whatever setting I do in Silk : when I open TinkerTool it simply reflects these settings.
What I'm trying to say : I don't know which is doing what, or if there's even need for TinkerTool when you're running Tiger.
BTW : repeat the same settings for Adobe applications - and the font showing in my screenshot is Garamond.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, MacDog.
VOID is designed to get out of the way almost completely, which is often appreciated by design people. Besides, my everyday working desktop mostly shows a screenwide drawing which is black-and-white as well ;-)

I really like this. Nice black and white with no gray.
I was inspired, and I may make this kind of B&W variant for my own theme...
Good job!

Absolutely badass, Gerrit. First theme I have liked better then Good Grey.

Only two suggestions, a variant with grey title bars and menu bar might be nice, and the scrollbar arrows being invisible is a little disconcerting, although I am getting used to it.

For the one that complained, THIS is what UI design and theming is all about. Making a system fade into the background and making work the focus, not turning your desktop into Disneyworld.

I wasn't complaining, simply offering opinion. I would complain if this were the only theme available, thankfully for me it is not.

I understand the need for a theme to "get out of the way," but this takes it to an extreme. It's so out of the way that it's "gone." There is no GUI with this theme... just a big, dark (void) in my screen!

Hey, Gerrit, one quibble I have encountered with VOID. On web pages that use a dark background of some kind, the VOID form elements in the browser disappear. I think you have transparent backgrounds on them, and with a dark web page background, both the form element and its label text get lost. Same thing happens with dark backgrounded widgets in Dashboard that use standard browser form elements.

Thanks a lot for the heads up, Northwind.
The text fields are indeed transparant, sorry for that. Fixed in next update for sure !
The label text, don't know about that one. Is it possible to provide me a link by PM perhaps, so I can study this for myself ? TIA

Oh, by the label getting lost, I meant that since the text label of the form element is black, it cannot be seen on a dark background. Removing the form element background transparency would fix that!

I said it before... now I have followed through. Because of this theme, I purchased Silk today. Thank you for this theme... Still using it. This theme is amazing for developing... and with Garamond as my system font, my mac really looks like the classy thing it is.

Thanks again,

I just wanted to comment that I haven't noticed any of the themes I use "get in my way". This makes me picture things like the titlebar sliding into your window blocking your mouse clicks when you are trying to do something, lol. Maybe it's a testament to my concentration that the themes I use do not distract me from the work I am doing. Also if you think any of the OS X themes get in your way it seems to me you haven't been theming long and haven't seen the humongous borders in some of the old Enlightenment and Kaleidoscope themes. Though I myself did appreciate those people's creativity.

It may just be me but I always pictured people who work at the bank or some other institution being interested in a plain GUI just like their clothes are plain. Those people I usually see running windows classic and not doing a thing to change their GUI.

Anyway, like with those old humongous themes I appreciate all the effort in making this theme and it's nice for people to have a choice. But I myself prefer to have at least a little definition to my applications. Like knowing where the window\controls end. The plainest I go is Classix and Ashen.

BTW, ZImphire if you are meaning that those people ported Void I'm sure that they had it before it was on the Mac just like most themes like that where windows first because of windows classic. Which I happened to get into theming to get away from, but I digress,

There is a reason why guis for software such as combustion, shake and digital fusion is so simple and exercise a prime hue. This theme shares this discipline and exaggerates it. Love it, great work.

yes - you will need to think minimal... the main distraction would be the window toolbar - set it to "text only" and you have the whole look - a regular Gerrit masterpiece.

personally I think this is an awesome theme.

thanks man, been using it since its release. one suggestion make the icons into mac resources in iconographer so that they can be both viewed and used as icons easier. its the top most selection in the save box.

i just wanted to stop by again and say what a great theme this is!!

at first i didn't think it looked to exciting at all... but then i guess that's the point of it. i've been using it for a bit now and i've got to say that it just works. it does stay out of the way, it's a really great theme. very nice work Gerrit.

(it's not very often that i am compelled to come back to a thread to give compliments after i've already replied once )

V O I D . . . u p d a t e . . . v 1.4

- Window titlebar borders are now 1 white pixel instead of 2
- Drawer borders in gray instead of black
- VOID for panther - downgrade built by eyevaan (thanks !)
- more VOID_appEXT (total now 193, both icns and png)

Download link

MORE VOID NEWS

- VOID will soon be available in ShapeShifter's Download tab (thanks Stuphalina - for the Dropdown menu idea)
- PRISM : desktop pictures !
(the idea is to symbolize the color scheme between Void's own black and white, using the Apple rainbow tones - additionally to design a screen area for Dock and Desktop icons)
This is my first attempt on a desktop picture - please be gentle, but do provide feedback (I need it  ).

Check them out (for now, just two in 23" widescreen).

As always, enjoy !

im using this on panther and the apple icon in the top left corner isn't a white square as it seems like it should be from the previews i've seen.. its a multi-colored rainbow apple. whats goin on?
i've tried both the tiger and panther versions and this happens (currently using the panther version)

ah ha! thanks iamnotmad

also, im trying the void icon set that shows up in shapeshifter icons, and it works but my adium dock icon isnt working (i assume it sholud be "ADI") and my folder icons are still the same as aqua. any advice?

by the way, how do i add more icon sets to shapeshifter? i click the + button and the menu comes up but it doesnt seem like i can add a folder of icons or something.. what filetype or whatever is it supposed to be looking for?

sorry for the newbie-ish questions but im new to shapeshifter (and have just been using my mac for a couple months)

cryer, the Adium icon is broken in ShapeShifter - when I coded it, I didn't realize that Adium supported customizable icons from within Adium.

You can add iContainer files to ShapeShifter for new icon sets. Just drag 'em in, or use the + button.

There's a VOID_Adium animated Dock iconset available HERE - it was made by PimPamPet.
About the Folder icon not working, did you apply the VOID.EXT guikit and do you have Drive icons only ?

thanks for the adium link, now the look looks much more complete!

im using VOID_Panther guikit and the VOID.EXT icons, both applied with shapeshifter
thats exactly it, i only get drive icons
any ideas?

by the way, is there an itunes void skin or something? that would be killer to have itunes match the rest of void

So you're still on Panther ? The VOID.EXT guikit was built in Tiger, perhaps a downgrade issue ? I'll try to check with other Panther users.
An iTunes skin wasn't planned, given the limitations of this particular skin. Perhaps I'll look into it someday…

I had never tried this before today - I use Candybar exclusively... so I gave it a shot.
@Cryer, your right, in Panther the icon GuiKits did not do a full replacement for me BUT I have to ask you - Are you running CB? you will need to do a restore default icons before trying the guikit icon sets.

@smeger - did the update to Tiger change the resource locations or anything like that which would cause the updated icons to not completely change? just askin' - this is to help me build the possible kits that would go with things I am working on and who to build for.

added
okay so I've tested this in three or four different workflows... here is the short ditty - no icon guikits created in/for Tiger can import correctly for Panther. I tested Gerrits VOID and PadmaColors MES option sets - the original option created for Panther, no problem but the new one would not assign most of the icons.

I am open for suggestions if I am misleading Cryer but current suggestion, wait for MacGrounds to be relaunched then hoard everything you can...
