With today's news, how long do you think it will be before we see:

a) Mac OS X running on a Dell box;
b) Windows XP running on an Apple box?

Someone will hack it fairly quickly I imagine, but I doubt Apple will follow suit until the new platform is fully established.

I HOPE Apple will do something to prevent Wintel boxes from running OSX, or Apple computers would lose their appeal !!!

Apple just Wal-Martified their hardware into an obscure "me too" niche.

Now they will have to compete with a $299 Dell that will do the same thing.

After Jobs' presentation, Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller addressed the issue of running Windows on Macs, saying there are no plans to sell or support Windows on an Intel-based Mac. "That doesn't preclude someone from running it on a Mac. They probably will," he said. "We won't do anything to preclude that."

However, Schiller said the company does not plan to let people run Mac OS X on other computer makers' hardware. "We will not allow running Mac OS X on anything other than an Apple Mac," he said.
