It's supposed to be locked at GM at midnight tonight.

I'll let everyone know how it is.

Yeah, I think I've gotten to the point where people here know I'm not BSing.

We're chatting about it now. He loves it. Unfortunately, he didn't take it home with him so I won't get it until tomorrow

If that's true, cool. If it's not, well, that's also cool as far as I'm concerned... I'm patient.

I just installed 7B80 (OK, I guess I'm not *that* patient after all ) and I love it.

I wasn't sure whether I'd be willing to pay for the 10.3 upgrade. I'm sure now, though. When Panther hits the shelves, I'll be there waiting.

The guy from railhead.com ( I find him to be extremely reputable ) says that the latest internal is 83, though of course no official ADC seeds.
Correct me if I"m wrong, but is this not the first week since WWDC that Apple has failed to release an ADC seed?

I had not been anticipating Panther much until I saw it recently. Now I am waiting desperately like the rest of you. So this is welcome news.

As for you Mike, I take you at your word. You're a straight shooter as as far as I have ever known.

Well I didn't mean to imply you make stuff up. There's been no evidence of that. However, I don't know what you've posted to "get you to the point" where you're reputable when it comes to rumors. You don't post in the OS X forums much at all.

For the record, I don't doubt you're being honest, as far as you know, with what you're saying. I just don't know that it's true either. Time will tell.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but isn't it a bit premature for Apple to all of a sudden jump to GM? I remember with Jag they put in the notes that the builds leading up to the GM were Release Candidates. I haven't heard anything about any RCs recently...or am I just out of the loop?

RC1-4 were posted internally at Apple for the starting with build 81. Think about that and you'll see that build 82 is NOT GM. They honestly hoped that 82 was GM (it was thought it was GM for a day) - then the same thing happened in RC4.

This was as of saturday when I spoke to a very close friend in cupertino.

Anyhow...believe me or not, but do realize that ADC members have had new builds every week for awhile...until now.

Again... the "bottom-line" for me will be when there is a retail package sitting on the shelf of my local Apple Store and I fork-over some cash to get the REAL "GM", "final build", or whatever the phudge you wanna call it.

All these seeded builds and pre-release copies floating around the net do very little to interest me other than fleeting curiosity of seeing screenshots posted by people.

Other than that... I don't really care. When Panther is released to the public... THAT is the only "build" I care about.

heheheh...

I feel similarly but all this RC/GM discussion relates to how soon that "build" will be on that shelf for you to buy

I picked up my new G5 today at my local mac store here in Canada. I asked if they had a firm date yet for Panther and one guy said the 24th of October and the other guy said no it was supposed to be on the 14th. So, I dunno...but October sounds like it's going to be the month!

Just thought I would share.

Michael.

Ohhhh another GM thread... where people don't need to be ashamed for pointless posts.
But shouldn't there come the GM of the new 10.2.8 first?

Well....

A while back it was discussed whether it would be possible for Apple to release Mac OS 10.3 on 10/3. Since October 3rd is two days away, that's obviously impossible.

However, I was just thinking...

We have got an entire month for Apple to meet the deadline of shipping Panther in 10/03 (October 2003).

So if the final candidate stage goes well, we may still have 10.3 in 10/03.

I thought it took at least 3 weeks from becoming GM to manufacturing. They need to get all those discs pressed, boxed, and sent out.

Well I recon they already have had the boxes designed and printed. No reason to make them in the last minute.

But yeah, from GM it is a couple of weeks process to get the actual box to customers.

Oh man... I so can't wait... still have my credit card ready to order from online Apple Store. It'll be a fresh install for me, I still think that would be a lot better than updating. More work, but well worth the work in the end.

No, no, no... I understand that... I'm just saying that none of this speculation will CHANGE that date. It won't bring Panther's release any closer or further away.

Heheheh... yeah, and look what happened last time. They pulled "Package Tracking" from Sherlock at the last minute although it was a "Feature" on the printed retail box of Jaguar.

Whooops...!!! Heheheh

Not true...if the want to go gold on 10/03 (US time format=10.3.2003)...that would be friday. (Of course all of october is 10/2003)

If it has gone GM, then Apple is not behaving typically about it. Nothing on ADC- ADC still at 74 (where it has been for an unusually long time).
I think the GM thing is suspect. Who is this guy who is getting it before the entire dev community, I wonder?

The bottom rung of the 3000 ft. ladder, the janitors, the retail people don't know, they're guessing, they're acting like big-shots to the first sucker-straight-off-the-Amish-carriage that listens. And neither does the tech support person know. And that car salesman at that Ford dealer in Witchita? He doesn't know about the internal happenings in Dearborn either. These people are so far out of the loop it's ridiculous.
"I'm in the know, don't you know?"
Good grief.
