I'm basing it off playtime and games I can still enjoy
1. Privateer - best free flow space sim
2. Civ/Civ 2
3. Dune II
4. Everquest - Consumed my late 20s
5. Duke Nukem (Multi-player at work after hours)
Honorable mention
SWOTL - best flight sim ever.

From 6th grade until 8th grade I played this game almot everyday, with occasional month breaks. This game caused me to learn geography and history of the Caribbean, European military history 15th-18th century, and just inspired me in other areas. I don't think I have spent more hours on any other game. I even took the manual to school to read for fun.
OMG I forgot about that game, it kicked so much ass, I remember playing that on my tandy 1000 lol. It was one of the best games I ever played, always trying to take over cities and ships, I can't remember what the highest rank you could get was though. What a sweet game.
