I know you're older than that, olepigeon, but you know as well as I that the only people convinced that the 80s were awesome are those not old enough to remember them.

Guess who wasn't getting enough in the '80s.

As a whole, the 80s were not awesome. But some parts were extraordinarily awesome. First, disco died, and was replaced by "club music" that did not require some sort of line dancing culture. The BEST Star Wars movie, "The Empire Strikes Back" came out in 1980. Hill Street Blues was on TV. Cosmos-the book and the PBS series. I got married. Pretty awesome in my estimation.

This is very true. I’m barely old enough to remember more than the last few years of the ’80s, and I still think they were dreadful.
Maybe in about ten years’ time, when we’re not reliving the atrocities of ’80s fashion anymore, they will once again start to be merely nostalgic, rather than vomit-inducing. I look forward to that time.
(Seriously, people have started wearing bloody harem pants again. In pink. WTF?!?)

Hair metal came about in the 80's, and my 7 year old son is hooked on it. He loves listening to Ozzy, Motley Crue, Dokken, Van Halen, Kiss, and others. You just can't get enough good guitar-driven 80's rock! As for the clothing, that's a different story...

No, in all seriousness. I went to a party last week with my former ITU co-students, and a girl was wearing this hideous pink harem suit (not just the pants, but an entire one-piece suit made harem-style). And everyone kept commenting her on how lovely it was and how great she looked. And they were bloody serious too!
And you see them more and more on the streets, as well, or even at work. Dreadful.

Wait. You went to a place where people are supposed to have fun and don't understand why someone dressed in a fun manner?

You should stop them and explain how only "cool" clothes like Steve's turtle neck are allowed and how they shouldn't be seen dressed in a fun manner in public.
Seriously, I think over the last decade we've forgotten how to have fun. What with the sky falling in from all directions all the time and such like, everyone's forgotten what they can't touch. So here's a reminder:
YouTube - MC Hammer - Can't Touch This
Anyway, weren't harem pants '90s, not '80s.

See, I mention spandex cameltoe and you think of that guy. If we were in the '80s you wouldn't have thought of that guy. Thus, not being in the '80s sucks.

It wasn't the first thing I thought of. Rather, it was the first thing I thought of that would be a good way to mock Uncle Doof in this thread.

See, I didn't even think of it at all.
But I can see where you're coming from. I mean, you do watch lots of virile young men running around a field in tight trousers for entertainment.

no, the current style for that is baggy pants.
It's not like you're above watching men in tight pants, anyway....
Is that 80's enough for you?
(don't worry, besson3c: I got this....)

The 80's were awesome if you're comparing them to the 70's, I guess. But I remember far less of the 70's than the 80's, so what do I know?

Don't worry about it. The '80s did indeed rock. Spher's experience was tinged because he had to listen to '80s German pop (which was basically The Hoff).

The 80s were indeed awesome, but then, all decades except this past one were awesome.
Best thing about the 80s?
Women realized (to the chagrin of the 70s) that you can remove excess body hair.
