I think what matters is that good science is carried out. SETI enhanced clearly is a step forward from a scientific perspective, and if that means that RACs are dropping, so be it...

Mine dropped already of more than 50%… but it dropped for all the guys running optimized versions anyway which is marginal in regard to the mass of people running the official client, as the graphs available on the daily awarded points is stable.

There's a long talks on these issues in the SETI forum. while the points stuff is fun, I personally don't take it seriously enough to be unable to sleep if it drops. It just show me how the official app wastes CPU power as its optimization on the OS X platform is a disaster. it's baffling to know we could do may more science (and gain points on the way) if only…

The only lucky guys right now are the windows users running the Crunch3r optimized app.

Enough whining, we'll have a burnin' app one day

Mine dropped like a rock as well but this is to be expected.

I await the "magic app" to regain where we were!

Either the "magic app" or contact with alien life.........

Whichever happens to come first.

I wish I had an intel mac and the intel compiler for mac, THEN we would have a smoking app! (well the intel mac's would be smoking!)

Those of us who joined this team recently with Intel Core Duos are doing fine thanks. Most of the big wars are in that arena. It won't be long though until this team produces a PPC client to get those numbers back up.

I am using the new crunch3r optimized client for Rosetta and it is better than ever. I have gained approximately 50% RAC on most of my boxes! I will milk the old optimized client for the Mac as long as there are work units for them.

Augh,
down from 2300 to 1400 (stabilising now)
The macintel is grunching, under windows, with crunchers app. (sorry, need it to keep up RAC)
The stabilising only occured after the V4 version ( thanx ALEX )
But G5/DP is after all down from 800 to 400.
G4 Mini = down from 12 results a day, using superbench = aprox 400 to aprox 2 results = 120

RAC = Recent Average Credit.

It's BOINC's guesstimate at your crunching rate. It also has an historical reputation to be ... erratic, shall we say. It does tend to go up if your crunching increases, and to go down when you lose some boxes. Other than that, it's somewhat unpredictable.

I believe the RAC is based on a machines average points over the last 30 days. Your total RAC is all your machines combined. To see something really bad go check out only your last 7 days of points as a RAC at:

http://teamstats.macnn.com/seti2/stats.php?page=p1

Click on the number in from of your entry to see who you might be gaining on or who may be gaining on you.

I had been at 1300ish for a long time and then my inlaws PC goofed up for a while and I lost if for a couple of weeks and went to 900ish, then SETI Enhanced hit when I was not paying attention and I am now officially at 444 but my 7 day RAC is at 285. Depressing. I have 3 PCs running crunch3r 5.12 clients (AMD +1700XP(1400 Mhz) on XP, P3 550 on XP and P2 266 on OpenSUSE), then a PowerBook G4 500 with Alex's v4 Optimized and a iMac G3 333 with standard SETI (48 hour(+/-) WUs).

Hopefully Alex's v5 will kick up the optimization as he is talking about a separate compile for G4 and G5. I understand some fixes in the core Enhanced code would help us all though.

Oh yah, the drop was to be expected, but the cleint is focused on taking advantage of all the CPU power us users have thrown at it. We were taping the tapes dry for WUs for a while.

Now they have the same data being analized in more ways to detect more than Gausians, which takes more time and is better science than before. So I have not problems with that. Most people take issue with them releasing a poorly written client and claiming the Points would be equivalent to the previous version so it would be a wash.

SETI flourishes on the competition and the science. To deny it is to put your head in the sand. True some just do it to do it for the science, but the big contributers tend to want to rise on the list rather than fall.

But as of today the already lost 30,000 hosts! That's almost 10%. And there is only one trend: DOWN.
