I'm building a site, the navigation is text links, the navigation is only one level.

Client says that he expects a sitemap as included in the package, as it helps Google find the information on the site.

I'll add one, but I'd also like to mention to him that the reason I didn't add one in the first place was because it wasn't necessary, and won't help Google wise due to the navigation already being on the page.

How right would I be?

TIA

Actually, you can do a lot with Google sitemaps (click on the webmaster tools link).
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Sitemaps only help search engines find pages that are not otherwise crawlable, or that won't otherwise receive a lot of attention (such as dynamically generated ones such as http://yoursite.com/inventory/produc...iscat&show=all

However, you can do a lot with mod_rewrite to clean up messy URLs like this, and you can also test how crawlable your site is by using a text browser such as lynx/links.

If you are relying on Javascript to serve up content, this will also pose a problem for Google.
