Hey all,

I'm refurbing an old iMac for web use and light word document editing etc. What would be the best version of OS X to install on it? I have retail 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5. It previously had OS 9...

The specs are 700Mhz G3, 768Mb RAM, 80Gb disk.

Thanks!
sheesh, that took 8 hours for me to be asked to change my sig...

10.4.

From my personal experience with a 400 MHz G4 iMac DV, 768 MB RAM, 80GB disk.

And from at least three different threads asking the exact same question.

10.4 should work just nicely.

I still have my dad on 10.3 cuz he has a G3 300 and only 448mb of RAM. Plus he doesn't need any of the features Tiger brings to the table.

I have 10.4 running on a 500 MHz iBook. Works fine.

It's snappier than 10.5 on my dual-core 2 GHz iMac.

Nah, no really

10.4 for those specs.

10.4.11 works great on my iBook G3/500 with 640MB RAM. We need at least 10 more people to say 10.4...

We need at least ten more threads asking the same question.

I'm going to be totally contrary and say 10.4.8...

Why don't we make a FAQ for a few of the most common questions?

10.5 doesn't run on a G3.

10.4 is what I hear...

Another vote for 10.4.

I was being ironic. I mainly wanted to push my FAQ idea again.

And OS 8.5 won't run on that model - the first slotloaders did run on a special version of 8.6, but all the later ones required some variant of OS 9.

I vote 7.5.3. It may not support the G3 but it was a nice OS.

10.4 and make sure you run Safari 3! It's just so much faster then everyone other browser on PPC, at least that's what I've found on my G4.

You can download 7.5.3 off Apple website and it's only 19 floppies.
