Doesn't anyone remember the original point of this thread, which was that this trade means Aaron Heilman will finally get the spot he deserves in the Mets rotation?

Priorities, people! Pitchers and Catchers report in only a few weeks!

I happened to catch the Tim McCarver show today and saw Mets manager, Willie Randolph, speak for the first time and was kinda surprised to find he really does speak intelligibly, contrary to the way he is lampooned on ESPN radio clips.

Good luck to Heilman and good luck with Pedro's toe!

EDIT: OH, and Mike Piazza signed today with the PADRES!!!???

I'm Cubeoid! and I'll undertake the task!

Hoo Has..where do I start? It all started in 1874 with Hans Brendorf, he was playing ping pong with one lion wearing a green baby hat and a seal playing tetris. Suddenly Larry the wolf walks in and says: Where is my foosball uniform! He was furious, so Patrick the monkey said "Settle down Larry, it's by the bar" 65 years later, Nurse Jenson said "I'll take three cups of green and one cup of blue" and they all lived hapily ever after.

I was listening to Jughead's "Calling Willie Mays" just yesterday, and I got kind of misty-eyed for baseball season.

UT college ball starts up here real soon.

Yeah, isn't it funny how a major broadcasting outlet like ESPN radio is doing the youth of America a disservice by lying to us?

(sorry, couldn't resist..... Now back to that main point of this thread, which is baseball....)

I'm really suprised that it took him so long to sign, and even more suprised he signed with an NL club! He's the perfect DH. I think if you take the rigors of catching away from him his average will be respectable again. Then again, maybe he didn't want to be a DH because he didn't want to cheat!

Thanks for the kind words. Do you follow the Mariners? That Ichiro fellow is amazing. He'll break a lot more records before he's done!

Hahaha! Actually, I DID flash on that as I was posting. Kudos to you for catching it and bringing it up!

I'm really suprised that it took him so long to sign, and even more suprised he signed with an NL club! He's the perfect DH. I think if you take the rigors of catching away from him his average will be respectable again. Then again, maybe he didn't want to be a DH because he didn't want to cheat!

Yeah, I think he may have wanted to remain involved in the game and not be a 'token.' As a catcher he WAS the field manager. As a DH he'd be an offensive force but that role would pale beside the involvement he's used to as a catcher. Also, he knows all the hitters and pitchers and that's a valuable encyclopedia of knowledge that not only he can use by staying in the NL, but that he can bring to the Padres. Who knows? Maybe he still has a chance to make the All Star game at a position.

Whereas in the AL it's Big Poppi at DH.

Actually I haven't gotten into the M's quite yet. Maybe this year. I'm still grieving for the Red Sox. Now that Johnny Damon is gone to the Yankees, Camelot is dead.

Yeah. Ichiro IS unbelievable! Mike Hargrove is not.

For the record, although I appreciate all he's accomplished as a player and a manager he's not my kind of manager. And I'm not sure what it is exactly about him I don't like but I really think he is over rated and with him the Mariners will do no better than the Orioles did with him at the helm.

The Indians did well because John Hart, the GM was OUTSTANDING! He put together a team in Cleveland that won the division 5 years in a row. All Hargrove had to do was just keep from messing the team up.

I'm exaggerating a bit but look at the record.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/ma...argrmi01.shtml

I'm looking for a team to root for in 2006 and I can't just CHOOSE it. It has to choose ME. And the M's aren't saying much to me so far.
