At a media event today in New York, HTC officially revealed its new Windows Phone 8 lineup, the Windows Phone 8X and the Windows Phone 8S. The two new handsets, available in an array of colors, and representatives from both HTC and Microsoft have been stressing the new handsets as the result of an intense focus on form-meeting-function with regard to the interaction of hardware and software. The 8X and 8S feature a clean, squarish design, with a 4-inch screen for the 8S and a 4.3-inch screen for the higher-end 8X.

The 8X's 4.3-inch screen will output in 720p on an HD super LCD 2 display. Inside, it will pack a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of storage, and NFC support. Its 8MP rear camera will have an LED flash, and its front-facing 2.1MP camera will feature an f/2.0 lens and BSI sensor for help in low-lit situations. The 8S is meant to be a mid-range device, featuring a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.0GHz dual-core S4 processor, 512MB RAM, and 4GB storage. It will not feature a front-facing camera, but its rear camera will have a 5MP sensor with an f/2.8 aperture and 35mm lens capable of 720p video capture. The 8S will also feature microSD compatibility, enabling users to expand its storage capacity beyond the included 4GB. Both models will sport integrated technology from Beats Audio. On the 8X, this will mean an extra amplifier for the audio out, enabling it to power larger headphones without distortion. The 8S will not have additional amplifiers. The 8S' Beats integration will include a Beats Audio application that gives notifications whenever headphones are plugged into the handset. The 8X and 8S will be available starting in November on 150 operators in over 50 countries. In the United States, the new WP8 handsets will be available on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Orange, O2 Telefonica, MTS, Three UK, T-Mobile, and Vodafone are said to be among the devices' European carriers. [some images via The Verge]
