I don't mind the update (especially since it's temporary), but for christ's sake, the font size it tiny! At the very least, could you use a relative value in the CSS so that browser prefs can change the size? I seriously have a headache now from the squinting.

There is one thing I really want to disable and yet I seem to be unable to do so: Subscriptions being emailed to me automatically even though I have no email notification enabled.

I like the new forums, but the orange hurts my eyes.

I'm curious, is the orange and blue colour scheme gonna stick around, or can we expect something different in the final design of the forum?

and i've added instructions for getting rid of the email notifications in the announcement.

ok, that's enough of vb3 editing for me this week.

Looking forward to seeing this baby go GM (ie. the design being tweaked to perfection)

Demonhood, is it possible to subscribe to threads but not get any notifications ? I selected "no email notification" but I still got them. Now I turned the subscription off.

No. Subscribing to a thread means that you're notified every time someone replies to it. If you don't receive notifications, you're either not subscribed to the thread, or there's something wrong with your e-mail address.

The only thing I see wrong is the Title bar in the Reply to Thread box is streched way out of the box.

No, they fixed it now so it only goes up to 8 and then has a "last page" link.

I have the following options:

Default Thread Subscription Mode: Do not subscribe, no email notification, instant email notification, daily email notification, weekly email notification.

Shouldn't option 2 subscribe me to the thread (so I can check it's status in my control panel) without sending me any email about it ?

Just remember: having everyone autosubscribed to every thread they reply to places a big load on the database, it really should be off by default. Like I mentioned in the Feedback place a few months ago

Yeah, but if the server can handle the load, then why not ? It's a really handy feature as long as it doesn't bug me with emails. I had 50 emails from macnn in my mailbox when I came home yesterday.

Full edit in Camino 0.8.3 is really sluggish; maybe from the animated icons on the page?

Here's a question... why does this version of the forum software look so much better in IE6 for Windows than on Safari or Firefox??

I'm browsing right now on my PC with IE6, and things like the "Reply to Thread" page/box and the bevels around the nested quotes look way better in Win IE than in Safari or Firefox.

Is this just the way the VB3 software was written??

Probably the way the standard VB3 theme was designed. I'm sure once the real theme is put up it will look much nicer in Safari and Firefox.

its been a few days and well...a few things still haven't been "fixed".

i'm still missing the links to each forum at the bottom.

the smilies aren't working right. i can't access the head hitting the wall, thumbs down, wink, confused, poking with a stick or any to the right of those, without clicking the "more" link. however, this is due to how i have my safari window set up. those smilies are beyond this reply to thread box border.

these big ugly yellow bars are...well, ugly. i think they should be smaller.

what was wrong with the old look? i liked it much more than this.

Well, they haven't finished updating the look yet. It will take some time, but I think they will be giving the place a totally new look, different from this one, and different from the old look, too.

I imagine that the totally new look will come once the main MacNN page gets overhauled, too.

They probably planned to wait until everything was ready before rolling out VB3, but then VB2 started giving them problems, so they decided to roll out VB3 early, and then fix the minor problems while they continued to get the new look ready.

Give it time.

Now that I've seen this for a couple days...

The biggest problem is that the Message boxes have no hierarchy. The Date-Time stamp is the same size as the message contents. As is the Signature text. The Message should have primary significance over everything else, in the new scheme it doesn't. It gets lost too easily.

Never been a big fan of the Signature images but that isn't hurting anything here. It's the lack of distinction between the 3 elements. Having a Rule between them doesn't do enough.

Color scheme, fine. Graphics fine. It's just much harder to read a thread now. It needs to be tweaked to make the Message the most important element again.

How about adding a certain well-known command which erases the hard drive (and which people occasionally like to recommend in jest) to the censorship filter?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
