So my girlfriend has a brand new house, but her living room is really dark because she has no ceiling light in the room and only a couple of weak floor/furniture lamps. For Christmas this year, I thought the gift of light would be appreciated. I can find some nice floor lamps that give off lots of light, but what I'm having trouble finding are lights for the ceiling that fit an oddity in her house. For some reason, the previous owner had these two semi-hemisphere, ornate things on the ceiling. What makes them really odd is that they have hooks and electrical outlets! So I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to put a couple of lights up there... but I'm having trouble finding any type of plug-in lights that have a small body and which I could potentially hang from one of the hooks.
Ideas?

don't look for plug-in lights; look for normal ceiling lights (that would be hardwired) then wire a plug to the lamp/fixture yourself. that opens up infinite more lighting solutions.

You take the face plate of the box and mount the light to the box.

A duplex provided for me while on an internship had the same thing - hooks on the ceiling but no actual ceiling lights. I found some nice hanging lights on clearance at Menards for less than $20 each and wired them up to a remote control box made for a ceiling fan, so I had remote controlled dimming lights.
