So the Seagate Momentus 100.0GB 5400 RPM drive is now available. Best buy has them for $180. What's next? When do the 100gb 7200rpm drives suppose to show up?

I want to upgrade my powerbook hard drive, but If I am spending the money, i want a speed boost as well. Any info on the 7200rpm 100gb drives?

Given that my 15" G4 PB currently uses a Toshiba 5400rpm HDD and that I've had no noticable problems with access times, I'm willing to go ahead and settle for a 5400rpm 100GB HDD. The only downside is that my current HDD has a 16MB cache whereas the Momentus has a 8MB -- can any of the more technically inclined people give me some idea of how noticable the drop may be, particularly with the types of programs where it may be most noticeable? I'd appreciate it!

I'm really hoping to get a 100gb 7200 in my powerbook. 5400's just too slow if I'm going to be editing video with it.
Have:
30GB 5G iPod
Want:
15" 2.16GHz MBP - 20" Cinema Display

yeah well I'm having more issues with space - I do use an external firewire drive for video/final cut pro stuff. The thing is.. I just got a 40gb ipod and
my powerbook is running out of space as I fill my itunes up with all
my CDs. Right now I have 35gb of music (yeah I have a lot of CDs, not to mention the $400 I spent at the itunes store.)

Do I buy the Seagate 100gb 5400rpm drive now, or wait until the 7200rpm comes out. Anybody know if any website tested this new seagate in a powerbook yet? I want to know if their are any battery, heat, and noise issues.

I have been using this seagate for a month now in my 12"PB and have no issues other than it said 7200rpm on the box and it wasn't.
I think it runs cooler than the stock drive and the noise is very minimal.
I can't tell any difference in battery life at all.
It was a great upgrade for me as it seems much faster than the stock drive and I like seeing all that space available. I imagine once the 7200 is out it will be extra iceing on the cake.

The 7200rpm drives were supposed to ship before christmas (which is why some people purchased them and foud out they were 5400rpm drives). They should be out fairly soon, I'd say by mid feb you should see them...

I called and they said march. That is what the sales department said.
